There’s a missing boy in my area, it was on the news. It freaked me out a lot seeing that this AM.

What struck me about this story aside from the fear of a missing child and the amount of pedophilia being uncovered in our community as of recent, was that the boy went out to meet someone he met online…

The story told on the news felt very familiar but with a different ending.

They showed pics of him, he was young, just a kid. I thought “who would even want to do anything with someone that is so clearly a child”

Then his age came on screen

He is the same l was when I got mixed up in everything

That hurt

Not only did it hit close to home, but it reminded me that I was a child. I always thought of myself as mature or adult enough around that time. I was a child. That disturbed me. It challenged a notion I had for years.

I was always told I looked older, some of my abusers didn’t even think I was underage. Some liked that because they could rationalize it and say I was older.

I saw that article. They was a similar one a few weeks back where a 12 year old invited someone he met online to his house and the man took advantage of him and robbed him as well.

the robbing was a bigger fear for me than anything else, they abused me in other less invasive ways though. then when meet ups started becoming a regular thing because i didnt fear being robbed and id get assaulted or worse. one was in my house.

one man i met literally tried to kidnap me - he texts me sometimes to taunt me

All I can say is, it's a good thing that all this technology wasn't around when I was a boy. I was innocent and naive, but also extremely curious and daring. I would do anything I was told, regardless if it was an adult (strangers included) or another kid. If a pedo met me online, there's no telling what could've happened.

tell me about it...

I think its better now in terms of parental controls and awareness but actually worse in terms of what's going on and many people don't think that boys will go through with it or think that this danger is part of gay sexual exploration like i was told. People don't think that it's important to protect boys like this and I think the boys think they are safe too

Girls you don't see this happening much unless she was like running away from home or is kidnapped not like lured into the city

When I was 11, I wouldn't have recognized any danger going into a situation. In many respects, I was lucky in that my abuser never physically hurt me. In fact he took great measures to make sure he didn't hurt me. But I know that probably doesn't happen often in a one-time online hookup.

Was this the case where the boy went to meet a Roblox "friend"?

I don't think I would've survived the digital age as a kid. Barely survived as it was!
yes

people assume lots of different things, but the boy was probably groomed for months or years first. Robox has been warned many many times about the issue of pedophilia on its platform. If you have kid on roblox please look into it. Parents don't understand, especially if they didn't grow up with the internet, it is literally so easy.

I almost got into a car but he flaked. I sometimes made plans to meet but never did.

Sorry, Bluesteel, for that hurt. Although we hear much more about the predators who are out there, I think that in so many ways people underestimate how serious the problem is when it comes to the danger out there. The stuff that we may see in the media does not even touch the dark realities. All one has to do is search the internet to see things that shock to the core. There are laws, but predators always find ways. Just so sad.,
