Being a total Rush fan, I take note of the lyrics in their music often. This one stood out to me the other day, a song that was released in 1987, on the album entitled Hold Your Fire. Mr. Peart always has a way with words. (They are playing live near me this Friday. I can't wait for the show!)

"Open Secrets"

It went right by me
At the time it went over my head
I was looking out the window
I should have looked at your face instead

It went right by me
Just another wall
There should have been a moment
When we let our barriers fall
I never meant what you're thinking...
That's not what I meant at all.

[Chorus:]
Well, I guess we all have these feelings
We can't leave unreconciled
Some of them burned on our ceilings
Some of them learned as a child

The things that we're concealing
Will never let us grow
Time will do its healing
You've got to let it go

Closed for my protection
Open to your scorn
Between these two directions
My heart is sometimes torn

I lie awake with my secrets
Spinning around my head
Something that somehow escaped me
Something you shouldn't have said
I was looking out the window
I should have looked at your face instead.

[Chorus]

I find no absolution
In my rational point of view
Maybe some things are instinctive
But there's one thing you could do
You could try to understand me
I could try to understand you
You could try to understand me
I could try to understand you

Great selection. Rush kicks ass! I've only been able to see them live once though. That was back in 1992, when they played at the Omni in Atlanta. It was a great show. Their opening band was Primus, which I thought was an odd paring, but that's also when I fell in love with Primus. They kick ass to, but in a much different way than Rush does. LOL!

Have fun at the show. Peace,

Ken

GHOST RIDER a book written by Neil Peart
https://www.neilpeart.net/index.php/books/bookdetails?booknumber=2

"In less than a year, Neil Peart lost both his 19-year-old daughter, Selena, and his wife, Jackie.
Faced with overwhelming sadness and isolated from the world in his home on the lake,
Peart was left without direction.
This memoir tells of the sense of loss and directionlessness
that led him on a 55,000-mile journey by motorcycle across much of North America,
down through Mexico to Belize, and back again.
He had needed to get away, but had not really needed a destination.
His travel adventures chronicle his personal odyssey
and include stories of reuniting with friends and family, grieving, thinking,
and reminiscing as he rode until he encountered the miracle that allowed him to find peace.

Omigod, this song perfectly describes my experience trying to talk to a friend about my CSA last week. Haven't heard it in a while and it's from one of my favorite RUSH albums! Wow, thanks for sharing it. I really hope you enjoy the concert. I've seen the boys 3 times. Best concerts ever. Would love to see them again. Don't have any RUSH fanatics in my orbit anymore though so I'd be goin' solo.
