Derived from the two ancient Greek words psyche (“spirit” or “soul”) and therapeia (“healing”), psychotherapy is literally defined as “healing of the soul.” Trauma, loss, and other difficult experiences can cause us to lose touch with our innermost selves, leading to suffering, feelings of isolation and disconnection. With “soul” referring to the true essence of a person, including unique qualities, experiences, memories, and desires, my process of psychotherapy is aimed at helping you reconnect with the most authentic aspects of yourself that have become lost or buried through trauma and over time.
My approach to therapy is relational psychoanalytic and founded on the premise that healing occurs within the context of a safe and consistent relationship that allows for the expression of your true self. As such, I believe that the quality of our relationships determines much of our overall well-being, satisfaction, and success. I firmly believe that internal change precedes external change; my way of engaging you in therapy is designed to help you look within for the answers and find healthier ways of relating. I help individuals get more in touch with their inner world, learning to recognize and express thoughts and feelings effectively. In gaining a better understanding of yourself, you are likely to acquire more adaptive communication skills, manage emotions better, and feel increasingly confident in your goals and decisions.
I specialize in treating trauma, particularly childhood sexual abuse, and my clinical and research interests have focused on working with male survivors of trauma. I currently offer virtual sessions only for clients across Florida, and also often work with individuals more than once per week. Please contact me for a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if working together will be helpful for you on your healing journey.
