X-Men director Bryan Singer sued for raping a teen

I am surprised no one has posted this. A 31 year old man has just filed a lawsuit against Hollywood director Bryan Singer, who did the X-Men movies, alleging that Singer gave him drugs and alcohol and raped him when he was 15. At a press conference today, the man says that he and his mother went to the LAPD and the FBI in 2000, but nothing came of it.

I read the article and it sickens me. The police were informed and no action. It amazes me how certain sectors control moral authority. I think of the priests in the 1960's and forward. Only now do people question the integrity of the priest. Society, the police turned a blind eye and in Hollywood, the movie industry appears to control the city. As long as people worship industries, institutions and those in power abuse will occur. I would not be surprised if a poll was taken, many in society would be in denial of such abusive actions to the child and youth.

I do hope the victims are seeking help and maybe one day the movie industry will support the healing.

Nothing surprises me anymore--sadly it is the minority that cause CSA and those that deny and further inflict damage are also a minority.

[size:17pt]The greatest significance in this story is the turning of the heads. For every abuser, there are at least two enablers, and likely far more. That is where the focus should be.

[size:17pt]Abusers know this is wrong but are driven by powerful desire and predilection. Victims keep quiet because of the promise of reward and the stigma of shame. That is a powerful equation of secrecy.

I read the story and saw a video of the victim explaining what happened to him. I also read so many comments claiming the victim is lying and is only trying to extort money from the X-men director. It is such a shame that people want so badly to believe that some big Hollywood director is innocent that they'll attack the victim. People don't lie about stuff like this. His voice inflection, body language and his story all show he was a victim of CSA. He just wants justice. It's a sad commentary about our society that the victim is attacked for speaking the truth.

I didn't read the article, and I want to make it perfectly clear that I believe this person was raped, however there have been cases where people have made up stories of rape/abuse. I know firsthand because my folks were falsely accused of abuse upon me, my brother and sisters. It was later discovered that a girl, who was mad at my younger sister, decided to call authorities and tell them that my folks abused the four of us kids. We were almost taken away from my folks because of the vicious lies. My folks, even though proven innocent, were/are branded for life as being abusers in the eyes of many around us during that time. Our society has become so sick, thoughtless and uncaring that people do, in fact, make this kind of stuff up. Even though I am sure it is a small percentage that do, there are those people who will make it up.

There was just a heartbreaking press conference with the Singer victim with his mother and attorney. They name three other abusers in the lawsuit, including a Disney TV president. The attorney, Jeff Herman, says he has been contacted by "dozens of victims" who have been abused by Hollywood producers, managers, and so on.

Claims ex-Fox entertainment group head Garth Ancier forced him to have oral sex and both Disney TV president David Neuman and off-Broadway producer Gary Goddard also engaged in inappropriate behavior with him as a minor in the '90s.

Not clear why if Obi, the commenter, didn't read the article about the Singer case, then went on to say that some people who have been falsely accused.

It's pretty clear that someone in the Singer camp has gotten people to blast the victim on other websites.

Are you wondering why Obi didn't read the article you posted from TMZ AND went on to say that some people make false accusations?

I posted today's article from TMZ that had the press conference. Obi made the comment before today's press conference. The alleged victim's mother was weeping during the conference.

Obi's comment seemed to come out of left field.

I think this message about rape in Hollywood is easy to believe. Why? I've read the book (or most of it) written by Corey Feldman. The scenario is closely confirmatory with what Corey Feldman describes. Coreography: A Memoir

Also I can refer to my own memory of having been abused by a Hollywood figure when I was 4 years old.

I just wanted to say that ALL people who report rape should be believed. No one makes this stuff up...

I will try to make myself clear, again.

I believe that the person who claimed the director raped him IS TELLING THE TRUTH. I believe he WAS raped.

my, reply was to a specific sentence, made by davoswim, and now gentlesoul, that nobody makes this stuff up.

not a true statement. There are people out there that do, in fact, make this crap up. Albeit, it is a small percentage, but there are people who do and I provided an instance that happened with my folks.

however, with that being said, I believe, absolutely without question, that the person in the article presented was indeed raped.

Todd... how long you know me, baby?

Only Siths believe in absolutes.

Jay,

for a few years now.

correct about the siths.

just putting it out there that while 99% of the time it is true that a person reporting they were raped/abused is true, there still is that 1% that make it up no matter how much we believe that never happens. I only wish that was true, but sadly know it isn't.
