I've been reading in here and wondering just how far in the past you can go in order to press charges against someone. For example with my husband's experience and it being with his older brothers, could he possibly take them to court for that? They were adolescents themself when they did it to him.

that depends on your local laws. in some cases where there are recovered memories you can go back further, but in most cases it is 7 years. there is another complication, his abusers are family. putting your brother in jail isnt so easy as putting someone more distant in jail. i dont think i could do it no matter how angry i was with them.

needanswers,

As Phoster comments, there are statute of limitations considerations that vary from state to state. But even more decisively, I think the fact that your husband's brothers were minors would make it impossible to prosecute them.

If this is something your husband is thinking about, he should ask himself how doing this would promote his recovery. It would provoke a storm of emotions and turmoil and could traumatize him badly.

Much love,
Larry
