First let me apologize to you all for not letting you know my wife had health problems. It's just my way, not to share my pain with others. She fell on DEC 1 2004, had a dizzy spell and lost consciousness. The next day I took her to the emergency room, was there all day. She had bitten her lower lip, and broken her little finger in the fall, also she still had the dizziness most of the time, also she had a unitary infection, that has been reoccurring. Two days latter she still was having the dizziness, so I took her to the doctors office, he gave her some medicine for the dizziness and sent her home. I had hoped he would admit her to the hospital, but no. Once we got home she stayed in bed, still getting dizzy if she tried to stand. She also was getting weaker, I thought this was due to not eating or drinking enough water. By 21 DEC, she was so weak that she could not hold herself up in the bed, she would fall over just as soon as I let go of her.
At that time I took her back to the doctor to try to get her admitted once again. This time he took one look at her and said lets admit her. She was in the hospital for 10 days, should have been 15 days in my opinion. She got out on 31 DEC. Because I had just signed us up with secure horizon, a Medicare supported HMO, we had a big snafu getting the home care nurse authorized to come out. She came out on 7 Jan 2005, The first PT visit was on 12 Jan. We got her walker on 27 Jan, we also got her urine bag removed that day, she is using a diaper right now, I want her to use the bed side commode soon. We have been using a loaner walker that the reach program in town loaned us. The farthest she has walked is the 30 feet to the kitchen and back. She did it the first time out with the walker, and passed out when she got back to the bed. Its been two weeks since then and she walked the thirty feet and back with no dizziness. Come Monday she is going to the doctors office for a check up. It will be a long trip for her.

I am sure some of my stress from all this has shown up in my posts here, I apologize if I have said anything that may have ticked anyone off. I do not handle death or near death of loved ones well. I go numb, and feel no emotions, until someone asks me about the person, and then I choke up so bad I can't talk about it.

To the Mods, feel free to move this to the friends and family forum. I just wanted to have a link here also. :D

Hey 'Cowboy,

Good to have news from you.

You and your wife have been through a lot already this year and it's only a month old! I'm hoping that the worst is over for you all and it all just keeps getting better.

Thanks for mentioning the difference what is going on in your life can make in what we say or write here. I need to remember that about myself too, and other folks.

When I get upset or hurt by what another says or does, I would do well to consider that they perhaps have something going on that caused them to act the way they did. Many times it had nothing to do with me.

For me, just saying it out loud, like you did here, helps defuse the tension. Then I can be the caring person I want to be.

Good to hear from you. Take care.

Regards,

lostcowboy, I am sorry about your wife and hope she gets over it and returns to good health.

I dont think you have anything to apologize for, we all go through this lack of emotions. Maybe it is because we used so many to get us through childhood and adulthood. When somthing bad happens to a loved one, I go numb, I have difficulty grieving.

hope it all goes well,
