Why Poetry?

Why Poetry?

I am active on two boards, this one and another where I interact with those who deal with bipolar disorder and other things. The surprising thing to me is how both groups seem to use poetry in expressing themselves. I wonder why?
Is poetry chosen because of its many structures?
Is it because it can be short yet can express the bursts of emotion before the motivating emotion wanes? Or is it the abilty o be introspective.

Why do I ponder these things.
perhaps they have a familiar ring.
Does my mind scream out, to let it out.
To be a boy, who dosen't need toys.
To be like the lad who lives next door.
Whose parents he cherishes and adores.
just to belong. That cant be wrong!
To be loved as well as I can give.
Is the only reason I want to live.

Randy I do think that the reason poetry is use because in the writing you can express feelings and thoughts that are other wise hard to talk about. I do feel that poetry comes from your soul and at times that is the only place that one can be theri true self. The soul is the only place that my perp could not rape it was the only part of me that could not be touched. I feel that poetry gives my brothers a window into who I really am and what I am truely thinking. I do feel that is why poetry has been used for so long as a healing tool for many of us.

lots of love, Nathan
