Why are we here on earth?

God created man to rule over the earth, every fish, seed, plant, animal on earth. He created Adam to care for the Garden of Eden.

When he saw that Adam needed a helper and none sufficient was available, he created woman.

To complete the purpose, he proclaimed:

"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh." Gen 2:24

He told man to be fruitful and multiply: "God blessed them and said to them , Be fruitful and increase in number, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish and the and the birds of the air and over ever living creature that moves on the ground." Gen 1:28

With the fall of man, he cursed the serpent and told the woman that her childbearing pain would greatly increase and that she would be ruled over by her husband.

For man, he would sweat and toil in the earth and die and return to the dust from where he came.

Is it now clear then that we are commanded to complete that which God has ordained: leave our families, become one in flesh with our wife. Procreate.

But if we're Gay, then what?

being gay is awesome - a gay anglican bishop said that gays will be followed by all into heaven because of their similarity to god in their combination of the masculine and feminine -
go easy on your self - the bible is a thousand times over translations by individuals with different perceptions - our truth is divine -

Hey Jim:

I guess, to quote a politician here in Canada, I reject the premise of your question.

I believe myself to be a Christian* (always with an asterisk). I belong to a great congregation in a gay-ordaining, gay-marrying denomination called the United Church of Canada. Now there are small-town - even big city - congregations that are pretty conservative, but the denomination has been a leader on many of these, and other social justice issues so close to my heart.

My congregation, Trinity-St. Paul's United in Toronto, is one of the most progressive of the lot.

To get to my disagreement with the premise of your question, I have been encouraged to look at the Bible and its stories, as allegory, even myth. ("Myth" gets a bad rap as something unture when, in fact, it is a truth told in story form. I recommend reading Tom Harpur's "The Pagan Christ".)

The fact is two men cannot procreate. That has not prevented male couples from marrying and adopting kids (adoption rights preceded marriage rights here!).

We have a long way to go before gays are fully accepted. The day may never come. But so much progress has been made in my life-time, the most coming in the last few years here.

Don't lose heart!

Hugs from Canada,

Kenn

* * * * * May contain triggers * * * * *

The ten commandments were given to Moses to hand down to man, to guide man to the end of the age. They are.....

1 - Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2 - Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.
3 - Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord they God in vain.
4 - Thou shalt keep the Sabbath day holy.
5 - Honor thy father and thy mother.
6 - Thou shalt not kill.
7 - Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8 - Thou shalt not steal.
9 - Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
10 - Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors goods.

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. Mark 12:30

And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. Luke 10:27

Alright, lets see where I stand.....

1 Guilty I let material things come before Him.
2 Guilty I wear a gold cross.
3 Guilty I swear like a trooper.
4 Guilty I work Sundays, on the job and at home.
5 Guilty I never learned who my father was, and I despise my mother.
6 Guilty I have conspired to kill myself.
7 Guilty I have a sex life outside of marriage.
8 Guilty Ive borrowed tools and selectively forgotten to return them.
9 Guilty Ive lied for a co-worker.
10 Guilty Ive had to have things (or better things than) my friends had.

On the extra commandment, Im guilty of sinning, as I cannot say Ive loved the Lord with all my heart, soul, strength and mind, nor have I loved certain people in the same regard.

I am a sinner. I will always be a sinner.

God knew that we were, are and always will be sinners. He knew that heaven was unattainable and unreachable by what we are and would be. He knew that we could never be good enough or perfect enough, and so he sent His Son to save us, and our Savior carried the weight of our sin and we are forgiven through Him, in His name.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

I guess what Im trying to say is live your life right, but right for you and your maker. Make things right between you and Him nobody else matters but you and Him. If something bothers you, and it is possible that it can be changed, change it.

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can, and the Wisdom to know the difference. Amen. Reinhold Niebuhr

If it cant be changed, let it go.

Of course you have to subscribe to the philosphy of the church in this question. I've seen church do far too much harm to me and in this world to subscribe to what they say. Instead I seek out spirituality which doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Church. A person can be very spiritual without stepping a foot in a god forsaken place like a church. There are just too many out in the world trying to prove just how "great" and "God Like" they are for my taste.

If we judge our lives by how we have to "multiply" than that really sucks in many ways. There are so many people who shouldn't have children and yet they do. There are so many children in the world that don't have a home or anyone to hold them, care for them. There are far too many children who go to bed hungry, who have no place to sleep and who have a very small chance of making it in the world. So when I look at all these things, I doubt I will do the world any harm by not having children. In fact, I feel personally that I will be doing the universe a good thing.

I also see a Bible that says God made Adam & Eve. They had two boys Cain and Able. Ok, now you tell me how they multiplied from there without incest. As far as I can see, there is no talk of that. I could go on and on here, but I will stop on this part.

Man hasn't come anywhere close to taking care of the garden of eden or of the world or animals. Man has does so much harm to the universe and this makes me very sad.

So anyway, I see so much of the teaching of the church to be anti human, anti love and anti respect. They rule from fear and they strive to hold their members in ignorance. If I am going to worship my God, than I will do so without people degrading all which is pure and good.
