Uncommon Therapy and Dr. Erickson

Before any memories surfaced, I was working in social services and received training in therapy. I learned about Milton Erickson, MD and his approach to psychotherapeutic hypnotherapy. There is a book still published by Jay Haley full of stories of his therapy. Although abuse isn't actually discussed very much, his approach to addressing the unhappy place of his clients answers many issues survivors have to face anyway. One story in particular, of a first generation American who has become completely despairing of his lot, reveals lots. Dr. Erickson shows such concern and intelligence, it's surprising his work isn't more widely recognized. The hypnotherapy part of it is a little unpopular, it would seem. Erickson's approach, though, is so full of integrity that it is reassuring to me of the hope and fulfillment that it offers.
