There were 269 people aboard, including US Rep. Lawrence McDonald (D) of Georgia. There were no known survivors.

Rep. McDonald was originally scheduled to fly on on a previous flight. He missed that plane by just minutes because of a thunderstorm. He passed on a Pan Am flight to take advantage of a sponsored ticket for KAL007.
