My boyfriend is a survivor. He reads books, researches on the internet, educates himself. He is so willing and open to learn, to share, to do what he can to continue along the healing process. But things are tough these days: Money is tight, his career is not doing too well. He drinks now, he uses the excuse that he is "self-medicating" because he can't get the proper help. He is full of dispair. This man is so amazing to me but it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart that he is so willing and so able to benefit from therapy or counseling... but can't afford it, can't do it because he has no health insurance.

Can anyone there please share options for survivors who are limited on finances and do not have healthcare. More specifically in the Hollywood/LA area. I've been unsuccessful finding any support groups or anything. Please let me know. I care very deeply for this man and would appreciate any advice or help about options. Thank you so much

He can call around to see if a therapist has a sliding scale that will go according to his income/expenses. I know we've been looking for a different therapist and our deductible was like $60 I told them to forget it

Good luck in finding someone!!

Two leads you might follow:

1) The YWCA: While I used to think of the YWCA as a fitness club for women, in some areas it is not that at all. They provide a variety of sexual assault services and aid for victims of domestic violence. What is more, I know of at least one YWCA that provided a support group for male survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and individual counseling for males. Payment was not a condition.

2) Since it sounds like drinking is a problem here, try the your state's department for Vocational Rehabiblitation. In some states, alcoholism is considered a handicap and entitles the person to certain "benefits."

I just thought of one more...

3) Jewish Family Services is another organization that is not nearly as exclusive as the name might make you think. They serve people without prejudice, and use sliding fee scales.
