I found the Wounded Heart by Dan Allender a real help with understanding the effects of childhood sexual abuse and the healing process to restoration.

I also found the Healing Path was an excellent book on healing of the soul even though it doesn't directly involve childhood sexual abuse, it does give the reader hope and a path to follow to get healed.

Have a great new year and I wish everyone the best this year!

Has anyone done/read the workbook that goes with The Wounded Heart? I've been thinking of getting it but haven't found it anywhere locally, so I'd have to buy it sight unseen, as it were...

we have the workbook for The Wounded Heart...its VERY thorough!

I highly recommend it...my FH has not delved too deeply into it yet because he just hasn't gotten to that place...but we have paged through it together and its clear that it can be used as a SERIOUS tool on the road to recovery!

The Wounded Heart (the book) is VERY wordy for my FH and a little hard to follow (I absorbed it like a sponge...everyone is different!) And the workbook is very clear and concise...while still allowing your own pace and being quite unassuming.

Not to scare you off, by any means, but it doesn't really allow you to b/s yourself....
you'll need a notebook for writing/scribbling in in addition to the workbook and the book itself!
It asks some questions, gives you time to answer them (and from what I can tell...those questions can seem very benign!) and then it will turn around and use your own answers as the answers to what could have been a 'trigger' question....or one that might be too difficult to answer straight on...does that make sense?

Thats the best I can do explaining it from the seat next to the hot seat!

One of the things we liked best about The Wounded Heart is that it presents the topic not geared toward the sex of the person abused. He flips from referring to the abused as "he" and "she" and therefore keeps everyone from feeling like the book is about 'abused boys' or 'abused girls' exclusively!

Good Luck!
go get the book "Abused Boys" also....

I'm glad this is mentioned again. I have heard of this book but have never gotten around to reading it. Time to do so though! It sounds like a powerful challenge.

Much love,
Larry
