According to Sanatan Dharma the Universal law we are all bound by the law of Karma, that each action as an equal and opposite action for us that what others undergo on the behalf of us we would undergo it too, only at a different point in time, but there is no escape from the consequence.
That is why the Vedic civilization never advocated any courts room, where judges sat pontificating on each others lives nor did they suggested, that we all have our own self justified vendettas against fellow human beings who are just channeling the consequences of our past Karma. In fact it had no word for retribution. The Universal law pays it right back to everyone. Every choice of ours is accounted for, and every consequence is watched by it too. Because it is energy that we are releasing thru our every choice and as energy is, it is bound to come back to its source.
That way we can only create greater humility amongst ourselves to respect what we are going thru and learn to create better now, so that we dont have to go thru it again. For example if we have experienced extreme lack of compassion in this life, developing compassion would be a natural consequence, whereas any thoughts of vengeance would only keep us trapped in the cycle of Karma.
Put simply, this law means what we sow is what we shall reap. So be wise and sow better now.
