The police want me to come in...
...but I live halfway across the country now. This would be for a report on something that happened a couple decades ago. I'm not a wealthy man. Can't even afford to take the time off from work, much less take a "vacation." I don't even know if the guy is still alive.

I just realized also, that I called them at 11pm on a friday. They mighta thought I was drunk. Maybe the guy answering the phone wasn't qualified to handle this sort of call - or maybe he just told me whatever popped into his head to get me off the phone, thinking I wouldn't remember it in the morning.

Thoughts?

You can usually take statements in a local police station so you wouldn't have to travel. Ask the police when you call them.

Rooting for you.

Nobbynobs is right. You can also write out your story and have it notarized and send it to them. They will look into it the best that they can with the information that you provide. If nothing else, at least their will be an official record of it.

Good Luck,

Brian

My best to you friend. I too think arrangements can be made without having to send you halfway accross the country. You have a tremendous amount of courage. Hang in there and we'll keep you in our thoughts.

Lots of love,

John

If they need a statement, get them to come to you, or do it locally.
They have the resources to do it, you dont.

It is important that you follow up the initial reporting of the offence, for the safety of others,

I live in the UK/England.

Here, the police come to us!

I was actually drunk when I spoke to the police in Oct 2004 (late Saturday Night). It was raining like a monsoon.

They called Sunday Morning, expecting a false address - obviously it wasn't. Same day they asked me to go to the police station to make an urgent statement. It wasn't far for me to go, but they would have picked me up if need be. They actually offered me the option of making my own way, or having a lift. They had the courtesy to point out that neighbours would start talking if they saw a police car outside my door 3 times in one day!

Yes - they should come to you!

Best wishes ...Rik
