I wrote a memoir to break a silence I carried for over 40 years—a silence many of you here know too well. Riding the Elephant is the story of uncovering childhood sexual abuse I didn’t consciously remember until midlife, and the long, messy path toward healing.
Now that the book is out, I’m running into something familiar: silence of a different kind. Despite positive feedback (21 reviews, 4.7 stars), it’s been hard to get the book in front of the people it was written for. And that’s brought up some of the same feelings I had before I ever spoke up—like what I have to say might not matter. I think most of you understand that all too well.
There are a lot of powerful memoirs out there from women who’ve survived CSA. But there aren’t many from men. This one’s for us—for men who’ve lived it, questioned their own memories, and fought to understand what happened.
