'The four agreements' by Don Miguel Ruiz
I just wished to share something I am reading right now. It is a book more of like philosophy of life, not specific of abuse or healing. But how it is written, I find it is comforting at me, and makes good sense at me. I would just like to share a little of the 'agreements' themselves here.
1. Be impeccable with your word.
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.
2. Don't take anything personally.
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you will not be a victim of needless suffering.
3. Don't make assumptions.
Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can so you can avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.
4. Always do your best.
Your best will change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy, as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.
See how I mean? The wording, the ideals, they are so simple, to me, to understand. I know that they are not so simple in practice. Always, we will take care, feeling responsible for feelings of others. Always, we will misunderstand, and take things personal, and we will make assumptions. But this is what I am reading now, thanks to a good friend, and this is what I work at now. I just wished to share it here.
