The Castrati: a dark corner in music history

I heard about this practice. It seems so weird that people actually did this. I often wondered what if the boy didn’t want to become a castrato?

There was in all likelihood a lot of grooming going on. Young boys from poor backgrounds who were lured with promises of wealth and fame. And they didn't even need the internet.
