I'm looking for a reference book on dealing with childhood sexual abuse

Yes, Roscoe, those 2 are pretty definitive works. I have them both and refer to them at least twice a month just for my own edification.

Judith Herman "Trauma and Recovery". It was considered a feminist work when it was written but it was considered "the" book on the subject at one time.

Maybe Beyond Betrayal by Gardner. Or the book Adult Children of Alcoholics, it has a lot of stuff on shame

An old one that helped me a while ago was "Healing the Shame that Binds You" by John Bradshaw. Also, believe it or not, there's an entire organization dedicated to understanding shame. You can look here for more resources if you like to read.

I’m rereading the book “It Wasn’t Your Fault” by Beverly Engel. She has a bunch of exercises for reducing shame. I’m might be useful.
