Hello All:

I was glad to see a post on EMDR and wanted to throw my two cents in.

First off, all those interested in learning more about this treatment should visit www.emdr.com.

Lot's of good stuff there.

I too have been receiving EMDR treatment over the past few years and have found it to be a very intense, sometimes draining, but ultimatley very successfull form of therapy. Much more so than any of the simple "talk" therapies or 10 step programs I've been invovled in. All of those help, but EMDR seems to be the most effective for longterm and prolonged growth.

While I can not say it has helped to clear up 100% of my "problems" it has definitely helped me immeasurably. More so than any other therapy I received before it. There are certain compulsions and obsessions I used to have that have been greatly releaved, if not cleared up entirely because of this treatment. There are other issues I am still working on, but then again, healing is a lifetime endeavor.

I must also add that I've been on anti-depressant medication during the treatment and perhaps the combination of the meds and EMDR work best.

I highly recommend that all my fellow survivors out there avail themselves of this treatment. It works!

Thanks for posting on your experience with EMDR. The more I read about it the more I think it might help. Every thing I read says that it is very helpful in the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD) or more specifically RTS (Rape Trauma Syndrome). I have asked my therapist about if he thinks it might be helpful .... and he says he doesn't know enough about it to be able to give me a good answer but there are two other therapist in his office that do use EMDR and that he could put me in contact with them. If I enter into a EMDR program I will let everyone know.

Best of luck to everyone,

John
