Stuck in Bed

Stuck in Bed
Nope, not what you think, I haven't gotten depressed and stuck in bed. But I woke up this morning and my foot hurt, Not terribly, so I went to work, stupidly, anyway, after like an hour I couldn't take it and called my doctor who saw me (one of the people in his practice actually) and it appears I have gout, based on the fact it happened overnight and I don't remember injuring it.

I also got xrays that turned up negative no broken bones. Anyway, so my day isn't the greatest, the anti-infloamotory meds were good enough I could get from my bed to the PC. But before I had the meds, boy did walking hurt, I barely made it out to my car. Thank god its my left foot and I drive with my right.

Don't know why I posted this other than the fact I feel you are my friends and you should know whats going on. For anybody who doesn't know what Gout is heres the defination from WebMD

What is gout?

Gout is a disease caused by the deposit of uric acid crystals in the joints of the body. It is characterized by pain, swelling, redness, and heat (inflammation) as well as stiffness in a joint or joints. Gout is a form of arthritis (inflammation of the joints) and is most common in men.1

What causes gout?

If your body produces too much uric acid or doesn't get rid of it in the urine, the excess uric acid builds up and may form crystals in the joints. Causes of crystal formation include drinking too much alcohol, taking medications that may increase the uric acid concentration, eating foods that are high in purines (specific chemical compounds found in some foods), and being overweight. The metabolism of uric acid is influenced by genes.

The first attack usually happens between 30 and 50. I'm 26. So I'm not that young to have it

Jason, I have had gout many times. It is awful pain. Just a week ago I was told by a lady that her 19 yo son had gout. I think it is basicly a problem of too much build up of the uric acid, and in my case, my kidneys do a poor job of passing it out.

Gout will bring anyone to their knees. If you have it again you might ask about taking Allopurinol. After an attack it is good at preventing further attachs at a 300mg a day dose. Works good for me.
