"Flying" by Strawbs from the "Bursting at the Seams" album.

Young boy that I know feels he has lived too long
his spirit of adventure stripped away
with little sense of pride
he feels deep down inside
he's

Flying, flying, flying to be free again
Flying, flying, flying to be free again

Young girl that I know feels she has lost her way
her only chance at love has passed her by
how little does she know
this is hardly so
she's

Flying, flying, flying to be free again
Flying, flying, flying to be free again

What justice in this world
phantom fantasy
the boy and the girl have crossed the bridge of tears
at night the birds above
they are sending down their love
they're

Flying, flying, flying to be free again
Flying, flying, flying to be free again

Crying, crying, crying to be free again
Crying, crying, crying to be free again

Dying, dying, dying to be free again
Dying, dying, dying to be free again

The Strawbs ! there's a blast from my past !

When I was about 17 or 18 they performed at all the student dances at local colleges.

But somehow I can't remember much about those gigs, happy - hippy - days

Dave,

They're playing in the States now, with a show scheduled for Baltimore, MD in November. It's the "Acoustic Strawbs" with Cousins, Lambert, and one other that I don't recall right now. There must have been 20 some musicians who've been Strawbs at some point in their lives.

Anyway, I hope to get to the Baltimore show.

Thanks,

Joe

Dave,

I'm posting instead of editing so you'll see this as a new post. They're on tour in the UK right now; they come to the US of A in October.

Here are the Aug-Sep UK show dates .

It must have been great to see them up close and local. What was their style then?

Your post reminded me of a band I used to see, called The Bouys. They had one hit, "Timothy," a song about a miner rescued from a cave-in who doesn't remember what happened to one of his mates in the mine. They were local to the area where I grew up (The Bouys and mines :) ), and the local story was the song was about a guy who couldn't remember eating the other guy while they were trapped.

Thanks,

Joe

Hell , tommorow night they're at Nantwich - about 30 miles from here, but I can't make it.

They did a lot of semi acoustic - hippy stuff when I saw them years ago. You had to be stoned to appreciate it - honestly

But I did have the honour of being one of the support DJ's for them and Wisbone Ash and a few other groups one night. I just wish I could remember what happened ?? :D
