Strange?

Some of you may remember, that I stated a while ago, that I was starting to produce a small notebook that contained quotes of inspiration. Not necessarily one that would appeal to the general public, but one that I found to be inspirational on a purely personal level.

Some of the quotes come from this site, some from films & some that just pop up in my head (something like those old cash registers, when you press a key and a sign pops up...I hear /see something, and up pops a quote).

Tonight, I watched the World Cup Final (football), and then wandered up here to my computer.

I've had one of 'my less good days' today.

When I sat in front of my computer, waiting for it to power up, a thought came into my head:

"When you look in the mirror, and don't feel so good - remember that you did something that can make a difference for others".

I wanted to write that thought down, and picked up a pen (from a tub that I keep on a set of drawers). The pen itself reminded me of someone inspirational.

You may recall that I used to work with special needs adults some time ago. You may recall that I once mentioned that I had received a postcard from one of my 'clients'; a young woman that had been seriously injured in an accident where her boyfriend was killed. They were hit by a car whilst out riding for pleasure.

M had barely been able to write (it was just a scrawl like a Doctor's signature) when I had last known her. She sent me a post card a couple of years ago from an adventure holiday that she was on, telling me what a good time she was having. I was amazed that she she remembered me, and more amazed that she still had my address. Even more amazed that she could write it on a postcard (it was her writing).

When I worked in the special needs environment, it was government funded.... my department was going to be closed due to reduced funding. I went from special needs, to working for a high tech microtechnology manufacturer (suppose I'm adaptable)that was setting up in the area.

I never forgot M (or any of the others) and often wondered how she had faired in life.

It's strange, that the pen I picked up tonight, was the one She bought me when I moved on to that high tech job. She had my name inscribed on it. It's a Parker Pen, Biro & it still writes like it was new!

Not sure what this means exactly, but I know it means something. Maybe I was there when She most needed someone to validate her after the accident... somehow that pen validated me again tonight!?

Best wishes ...Rik

Rick,

Thank you for sharing that story with us. All of us touch peoples lives in some significant way. Thank you for reminding us of that.

God Bless,

Brian

Rik,

That's what life is all about, touching others without regard to whether they'll ever be able to return the favor and touch our own lives in a meaningful way.

When love is given unconditionally, it is never wasted.

Lots of love,

John
