is there some way that we can organize to get rid of he statue of limitations that allows crimianbls to go free, i mean there is so much proof that shows that memories are kept underneath the surface and sometimes we never even realize what happened to us till many years later, why does the law work on the side of the sick and twisted and not for those who have been victimized and hurt. Their have to be thousands of therapists that would testify that it takes years for victims to become ready to confront their abuser if they ever are, and a court action is confrontation. whether its in civil and you are sueing for damages or criminal and trying to get jsutice or revenge, whats the4 difference anyways. we have been abused we have suffered, the people around us failed when we were kids, those who abused us failed as adults, the sysytem failed to protect us, failed to avenge us, we should do everything to get something out of it, i know im not going to be abused and jsut live with it and try and get over it, the abuser should pay, post pictures all over the town with the pedophile or rapist underneath, sue for all their moeny, ruin their lives the way they've ruined ours

Excatly the issue you mention is resulting in a rethink of the statute of limitations for abuse cases in many states. In some it has already been drastically revised, and in others this move is under consideration. There is something about this in our archive and I will see if I can find it for you.

In Canada they removed the statute on sexual crimes...biz if you are really serious about this then I suggest you do some research into how the Canadian government came about this decision. I can help you with where to look if you want.
 
I agree. There is no statute of limitations on murder, and the devastation from SA has left me frequently wishing I HAD been murdered. Not anymore, thankfully, but still...
 
The statute of limitations for sexual offenses committed against all persons needs to be eliminated. As someone has already pointed out, it does differ from state to state here in the US and some are in the process of fixing that...but there is much resistance from 2 groups...the insurance companies who do not want to see an expansion of one's ability to pursue civil justice, and of course the Catholic Church which really is worriedd about the loss of it's money! Very sad, tragic but true.

We should be taking the law from one of the states which has eliminated the statute of limitations for sex abuse cases...there are only a few..and press the issue of drafting such law into a national bill in Congress.

Also keep in mind in many states there are differences between the statute of limitations for criminal law (commits the perpatrator to jail) as opposed to the statute for civil law (allows a victim to seek damages).

In the state of New Jersey, there is no longer a statute of limitations for criminal sexual offenses against children but the civil statute is only 2 years after the crime or 2 years once a child has reached adulthood (18 + 2 = 20). It does allow a few exceptions if the victim can prove he/she repressed the abuse and only within the last 2 years..sought to bring an action.

In NJ, lawmakers, recognizing that the sexual molestation of a child is such a heinous crime, grants prosecutors no limit to seek these predators, then why should a victim here only have 2 years after the crime? No, it doesn't make sense.
