I find survivor issues in just about everything around me these days. Well, maybe not "Mr. Rogers" reruns, but I can't say for sure till I've seen them all. :D

The NY Times reviewer liked this story as Peter struggles to balance having a life and having "great responsibility." I saw it as Peter struggling to live a "normal" life despite the effects of something done to him, outside his control yet still exerting a strong influence on how he sees the world.

One thing that really struck me was how Peter has tried to "protect" MJ from someone who he has decided is not in her best interest, i.e., himself. That reminds me so much of the survivors who decide that they are "not good for" someone who is trying to share their life. The important thing that I saw in Peter and in some survivors is the tendency to overlook the fact that like Spidey, we don't get to tell anyone else whom they will love. (If you think I mean you because I told you something like this recently, maybe not. My wife is actually married to a survivor like that.)

There will be a lot of reviews in a lot of places, and I did enjoy the movie as entertainment. There were other things about it that speak to my own "survivor experience." But this was what I thought more folks here would recognize.

Go Spidey! And MJ! :D

Thanks,

Joe

Hmmmm....not something I considered, but damn if you aren't right, Joe!

Still, it's popcorn entertainment for me and shall continue to be so.

By the way....he DIDN'T protect her so much in the end, did he? :D

Peace and love,

Scot

Scot,

That was part of the point, I think. None of us can protect people from loving us. I have felt that some people would be better off with me out of their lives. I have heard other survivors say things like that about people in their own lives.

But in the end, we don't get to choose what others will feel about us. And that's probably good, too, at least given the way I have acted toward myself at times. I'm lucky to have the people I do have in my life, despite how I have acted at times.

And another thing. We had PBS on the other day for the kids, and I caught part of Mr. Rogers when King Friday started throwing his weight around and .... :D

I do seem to have a certain slant to my perceptions of the world around me.

Thanks,

Joe

Thaaaaaaaaat's it, Joe. YOU have a homework assignment (the same one I have to give myself on occasion):

Sit back and enjoy some popular form of entertainment (I don't care what - pro wrestling, "Six Feet Under," whatever) for what it is, and leave the psychotherapeutic stuff on the couch, okay? :D

I mean, we all have to take a break from it, but "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood?" Come on! (Although, he DOES come across as a creepy.....)

I'm stopping it now!

Peace and love,

Scot
