Your "queen" joke reminds me of a student of mine who was terrified about coming out to his parents: what if, what if....blah blah blah, all the usual.

But they accepted him totally and later when he wanted to go to a costume party hosted by some gay friends, his Dad suggested going as the Queen of England and his Mom did all his makeup! He was the hit of the party from what he says. Pretty cool.
