RE: Your safety and security. - IMPORTANT!
Unfortunately as the thread is locked, I felt compelled to add this regarding the thread title... It has little to do with safety or security and yet EVERYTHING to do with email addresses on the site.
For those of you not very tech savvy...
Keep in mind that when you post an email on the website, 'web-crawlers' pick this up in order to index and archive the page. In many instances this is an innocuous procedure which actually helps our other brothers out there to find us through a Yahoo, Google or other search tool.
Unfortunately, there are other crawlers as well that search the net for email addresses in which to SPAM your email. I don't know about you but... I HATE SPAM!
. Yes a little electronic 'virtual' spider comes along and copies your email and sends to a database where it is stored for future spam. There is NOTHING that the admins, mods or the board of directors can do about this. It is a by-product... a parasite of the 'net'.
Don't post your email address, on any site! or create a 'generic' email box that you don't mind getting spammed.
If you want to share your email with other members, do it in private IM mode in the chat (Not in the General Room) or by sending a PM (Private Message) to that person.
Hey look, I sometimes forget to do this too. Let me tell ya... I have experienced the whole process. SPAM, SPAM, SPAM!!! Trust me... I don't need Viagra and I HAVE been keeping up on my taxes. Spam bad... Bad Spam, BAD!
