I just read some website about war veterans and there was a PTSD Forum on it, so I read some of the war wives' posts.....even though it is not sexual abuse, it is trauma and has most of the same effects, and one soldier said, "Take him (the wife's traumatized war husband) by the hand....rub his back....let him know you care....that he is worthy..." etc. He said that the little things we do are appreciated by them even if they can't express it. That their emotions were taken away by the trauma through no fault of their own.....

Just learning more about the PTSD is helping me with this....reading of soldiers' wives who have stood by their husbands for decades, understanding at last, accepting that there are limitations....by loving their soldier husbands still....even though MANY of the war veterans' wives did not ever understand and left...I thank God that I am no longer walking blindfolded but am enlightened and learning to understand, at last, the brave man who is my husband and has been for so many years. I will try to give him what he needs, the compassion/TLC/understanding that I did not know he needed all those years. If he will let me I will continue to love him all his life and accept what he is able to give in return. And of course continue to hope he will decide to seek whatever healing treatment can provide.

It just also made me more aware of the sacrifice of our soldiers and their families. Many of those that did not give their lives for our country, gave their spirits, b/c they have PTSD that takes away their ability to feel and experience life to the fullest.
