Prostate Cancer

Prostate Cancer
Well my friends - it's official - I have Prostate Cancer - Rads score of 4 - Gleason score of 7

it's been since April 2nd that this journey started - I went to a new urologist (my old one had retired) for a follow up on my incontinence issues (I was holding 143ml - which is quite an increase from the last scans - my PCP had taken me off of the Tamsulosin - he said I did not need it - that I had damaged my own bladder due to my work choices of holding it in for hours on end - same guy who told me I was going to end up with a permanent catheter (not that I'd ever had any problems getting urine out - my problem is with holding it in - which now makes perfect sense as to the "why")) - this new urologist was NOT happy with my PCP and put me back on the Tamsulosin - in going over my paperwork she saw that I had had 3 PSA tests done in the past 2 years and that there was a marked increase - especialy between the last 2 tests - she did the dreaded finger test and could feel a hard lump on the right side of my prostate (yes, I completely checked out because it's the most I've ever had a female talk to me while having a finger up my butt) - I had a 3D MRI done on my prostate on April 26th (Yes - my 52nd birthday) which showed a 1.2cm mass on the right side - On May 17th I had a biopsy done - on the 28th I had to go into my own patient portal to find the test results - finally got a call from a whole different Urology facility affiliated with my hospital on the 30th - I need to have a bone scan and a PET scan done before they will move forward with any kind of treatment plan (my insurance needs to approve these scans before they can even schedule them - and as of friday they have yet to approve them)

My wife is NOT taking this news well...
How can I help you ?

hi tj, I hope everything went well and the doc. got it all now its just rest and recover, oh be careful turning over in your sleep because that can be a not nice way to wake in the middle of the night lol I remember it like it happened yesterday and I hope never to have the experience again

Thank You guys. I'm out of surgery. No more prostate, Seminal Vesicles, Lmph nodes, and sadly, they had to take the nerves - but he said he thinks he got it all out - now to recover. Hopefully I can leave the hospital sometime Wednesday afternoon.

TJ, now you can just focus on healing your body. So glad that part is behind you now. Take care and rest well!

Keeping you in prayer. I wish you a speedy recovery. Take care and get good rest. Thanks for posting.

Today was the day that the catheter came out - not exactly happy that it seems like I have absolutely zero control over my urinary system - I do know that it takes time to regain control - I do have to laugh at my surgeon though in that he said I would only need a "light pad" in my underwear - I put on a regular diaper in his office because I knew it was 2 hours before I was going to get back home - I've already filled 3 full diapers since I got home - I can sit on a toilet for 10 minutes with nothing coming out - but as soon as I stand up - water everywhere...

At least the doctor says that the incision is healing well

I do have an appointment on the 17th of July to talk to an Oncologist about radiation therapy because my surgeon says that the form of prostate cancer I have is very likely to either come back or spread throughout my entire body - it was a ductal adenocarcinoma - which I am told is the worst kind

I am sorry you are having to deal with this. Ductal adenocarcinoma Is problematic as it lines the duct walls inside of the prostate. It tends to be more aggressive and spread faster than other forms. I would expect you to get proton beam therapy. where they will bombard the targeted areas. This is very high energy without breaking the bank on you as far as side effects go. Protons' properties make them highly effective against this kind of cancer cell. I had 32 gamma exposures following chemotherapy after they took my right lung and 10 tainted lymph nodes out. I did not have good odds, yet I am still here. Hang in there, as technology is much better against this stuff than it used to be.

@TJ jeff - serendipity is an interesting thing, I was thinking of you just the other day... wondering how things are going, and I log in and you've posted. It really made me smile when you said recently, "I need more silliness in my life." Well... here I am! 🤪 I'm sending you some silly love and well wishes... rest, recover, and repeat. Get well little brother!

@TJ jeff, hey man, continue to rest. The American Cancer Society has a prostate cancer forum. That has guys with different difficulties it may give some additional insight. Take care!

I suppose good and bad news. Fortunately, they caught it before it spread the good and it could return- the bad. One day at a time brother, and I am keeping you in prayer. Take care.
