Professional Wrestling
Hi there! My name is Bryan, I live in the Midwestern US, studying to be a teacher. I am a history enthusiast, and a big fan of comedy, animation, sports, and pro wrestling. I am a survivor, having gone through an unwanted experience as an adult (21), at the hands of someone I thought I could trust.
This is my first post, and decided to have it be about a somewhat light-hearted topic. Is anyone here a current or former pro wrestling fan? It's something I've had a passion for since I was nine - the larger-than-life characters, the theatrics, the athleticism. It is a wild art form, that's for darn sure. One wrestler, Mick Foley, is a volunteer for RAINN and has brought in quite a bit of money for the organization. Another wrestler from his time frame ('90s), Sean "X-Pac" Waltman, is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and came out later and thanked him. Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Vince McMahon himself are also survivors.

I want to welcome you Bryan. This is a good place to look for information, even answers, and to vent or listen to others. There's a "Search" feature above. I suggest you learn about it, and consider browsing ideas your concerned about? There's chat, but not always in use. It's always hard to start something new like this. I think it gets easier with use. My view, at my age, is I don't have any more time. I need to do the work, and I seek it. However, situations do sabotage, and I'm in one of those at home. Best wishes.

Welcome Howard.
My favorite wrestler was Rowdy Roddy Piper.
I liked how he was just so nutty, and he wasn't ripped .
He was just crazy.
I loved the WWF back in the mid to late 80's .
I liked I thought George the animal steele was a bit sick
and needed immediate care (lol)
I thought Rick Flair was a bit much.(hence his name thou.)
I iodolized Ricky "the dragon" steamboat.
(I guess I was envious of men. I wanted to be a boy so
badly)
I found "Macho Man" Randy Savage to be really entertaining.
I liked the Iron Sheik. I was a fan of Jimmy the superfly
snuka. The Junkyard Dog,
I liked the British Bulldogs.
I can go on.
I loved it , then.
I was a kid, so.
I also looked forward to waking up early Saturday mornings
to watch the wwf cartoons

Thanks Howard , helping me smile.

Thank you for your response!
The WWF (re-named WWE in 2002) was truly hot in the '80s, all the way up until about 1993, when Hulk Hogan left.
From about 1997-2001 it had a resurgence it what was known as the Attitude Era. WCW, a promotion Ted Turner owned, was also very popular at the time, and ECW, a "hardcore" federation out of Philadelphia. Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Bill Goldberg, Sting, Hollywood Hogan, and Rob Van Dam were some of the top guys during this time frame.
For the last 17 years or so pro wrestling has had challenges coming back to the top of the pop culture realm. It has ups and downs, hot points and cold ones, and popular stars and not-so-popular ones. Many independent and foreign promotions still do well.
Linda McMahon, wife of WWE CEO Vince McMahon, is now administrator of the Small Business Administration under President Trump; Trump and the McMahons are long-time friends. I'm no Trump fan, but it is funny that there's now a connection between Washington and pro wrestling.

as a kid in the late 60s mid 70s i watched it on TV one guy stands out bruno samartino (not sure of the spelling) in the mid 80s i worked security at the local fairgrounds for dirt track racing and other events, one night i worked ringside for wrestling keeping fans off the ring, i was on the ring when Andre the giant came through the ropes next to me now im 5'11" but this dude was huge lol i just kept looking up and up he really was the biggest person i ever saw or been next to.

I never really got into watching wrestling, but I really like Chris Jericho as the singer for his band Fozzy. They are a metal band and do covers of classic songs as well as original material. I also liked Chyna and saw her in a few T.V. shows and movies (not the porno ones, I never saw those). I know her life ended kind of tragically which is a great shame, as she was an intriguing individual and quite talented.

Bruno Samartino! Wow, that makes me think of watching wrestling in the mid-late 70s when he would do commentating with Gorilla Monsoon.

I would watch on Sundays with a special UHF antennae and it was only on the Spanish channel- commercials in Spanish- wrestling in English.

Later I still watched it (into the eighties but it had changed. I remember The Iron Sheik and Paul the Butcher Vaschon, and a later wrestler by the name of Rick Rude- loved the way he would wipe the sweat off him and flick it at the viewer- pure attitude.

Fucking great memory!
