"Happiness and freedom begin with a clear understanding of one principle: some things are within our control and some things are not. It is only after you have faced up to this fundamental rule and learned to distinguish between what you can and cannot control that inner tranquility and outer effectiveness become possible... ...Remember too, that if you think you have free rein over things that are naturally beyond your control, or if you attempt to adopt the affairs of others as your own, your pursuits will be thwarted and you will become a frustrated, anxious and fault-finding person."

Yea, I'm a fan of short quotes too, but generally they are nonsensical rather than profound, i.e.

"Keep New York clean...eat a pidgeon." or

"if you can keep your head when everyone around you is loosing thiers, then you obviously don't understand the situation."

TODAY, TOMORROW, YESTERDAY
There are two days in every week
that we should not worry about,
Two days that should be kept free,
from fear and apprehension.
One is Yesterday
with its mistakes and cares,
its faults and blunders,
its aches and pains.
Yesterday has passed forever
beyond our control.
All the money in the world
cannot bring back yesterday.
We cannot undo a certain act
or take back a word we've said-
Yesterday is gone.
The other day we shouldn't
worry about is Tomorrow-
with its impossible adversaries,
its burdens, its hopeful promise,
and poor performance.
Tomorrow's sun
with either rise in splendor
or behind a mask of clouds,
but it will rise
and until it does,
we have no stake in tomorrow,
for it is yet unknown.
This leaves only one day-
Today.
Any person can fight the battle
for just one day.
It is only when we add
the burdens of yesterday
and tomorrow that we break down.
The sadness comes not from
the experience of today
but the remorse of bitterness
for something which happened yesterday
and the dread of what
tomorrow may bring.

Subject: Choose how to start your day

READ THIS, LET IT SINK IN, THEN CHOOSE HOW YOU START

YOUR DAY TOMORROW.

Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate.
He is always in a good mood and always
has something positive to say.

When someone would ask him how he was doing,
he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be
twins!"

He was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day,
Michael was there telling the employee how to look
on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious,
so one day I went up to Michael and asked him,
"I don't get it! You can't be a positive person
all of the time.

How do you do it?"

Michael replied, "Each morning I wake up and say
to myself, you have two choices today.

You can choose to be in a good mood or
you can choose to be in a bad mood.
I choose to be in a good mood.

Each time something bad happens,
I can choose to be a victim or...I can choose to
learn from it.
I choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining,
I can choose to accept their complaining or...
I can point out the positive side of life.
I choose the positive side of life.

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes, it is," Michael said. "Life is all about
choices.
When you cut away all the junk, every situation
is a choice.

You choose how you react to situations.
You choose how people affect your mood.
You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood.
The bottom line:

It's your choice how you live your life."

I reflected on what Michael said.
Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to
start my own business.
We lost touch, but I often thought about him
when I made a choice about life instead of
reacting to it.

Several years later,
I heard that Michael was involved in a serious
accident,
falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive
care,
Michael was released from the hospital with rods
placed in his back.

I saw Michael about six months after the
accident.
When I asked him how he was, he replied,
"If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see
my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds,
but I did ask him what had gone through his mind
as the accident took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was
the well-being of my soon to be born daughter, "
Michael replied.

"Then, as I lay on the ground,
I remembered that I had two choices:
I could choose to live or ...I could choose to
die.

I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?"

I asked.

Michael continued, "...the paramedics were great.

They kept telling me I was going to be fine.
But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw
the expressions
on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got
really scared.
In their eyes, I read "he's a dead man. I knew I
needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.
"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting
questions at me,"
said Michael. "She asked if I was allergic to
anything.
"Yes, I replied."
The doctors and nurses stopped working as they
waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and
yelled,
"Gravity."

Over their laughter, I told them, "I am choosing
to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not
dead."

Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his
doctors,
but also because of his amazing attitude.
I learned from him that every day we have the
choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,
for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Matthew 6:34

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about
yesterday.

You have two choices now:

1. Delete this.

2. Forward it to the people you care about.

You know the choice I made.

Quotes about
Frank Fitzpatrick and his presentations

July 2, 1992, on PrimeTime Live.
Diane Sawyer on Frank Fitzpatrick

In the story youre about to see, the reawakened memory of one man forced a community, a church, and now a nation to face what happened back in the days when everyone wanted to look away.

From later in the same broadcast

Now these children are grown up and tracking him down - led by a man who says hes going to see justice done.

Comments from audience of Franks presentations at conferences

Litany of names very moving and effective. Admiration, respect, and gratitude for your courage and persistence and continued witness - heroic & extraordinary virtue.

A job well done! Your presentation was outstanding. Your organization, of which my husband is a member, is to be commended.

A strong and courageous man. His testimony has helped many people.

Franks courage is truly inspiring. I was completely moved.

I found it encouraging and helpful. It has motivated me to speak out.

Frank & Sara: Thank you for what youve both done. Courage, kindness, and gentleness. Those words come to mind about you both. My life is changed. Love, Ann

Very good presentation. Very courageous and exciting. I liked the song/music especially. Very, very great.

Enjoyed his sense of humor, which has also helped me to survive my own sexual abuse.

What a gift you have given to so many survivors, a place and a home for support and courage.

Excellent presentation. Fun music pieces. Very sad and painful at times, but humor is a good method to help heal yourself.

When someone is seeking, it happens quite easily that he only sees the thing that he is seeking; that he is unable to find anything, unable to absorb anything, because he is only thinking of the thing he is seeking, because he has a goal, because he is obsessed with his goal. Seeking means: to have a goal; but finding means: to be free, to be receptive, to have no goal. You, O worthy one, are perhaps indeed a seeker, for in striving towards your goal, you do not see many things that are under your nose. - "Siddhartha" by Herman Hesse

Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up save in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket - safe, dark, motionless, airless - it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable. - CS Lewis

A few more:

Grief shared is grief halved. Joy shared is joy doubled.

Don't try to be a great man, just be a man and let history make it's own decision.

Measure twice, cut once.

Keep honking. I'm reloading. (Oh, like YOU'D think differently after driving in Massachusetts! :D )

Jesus may love you, but the rest of us think you're an (deleted)!

Love God. Love your neighbor. Love yourself.

Forgive, but for yourself. Not for those who wronged you.

A resentment weighs you down like a lodestone. Give up hatred, because it takes up more of your energy.

(For my perps, thanks to Norman Schwartzkopf. Answering a reporter on the nature of Christian forgiveness on the battlefield) I believe it's God's function to forgive. We're just trying to arrange the meeting.

Okay, so some of mine aren't exactly loving, but you gotta admit, they can be appropriate!

Peace and love,

Scot :D

Here's one I should have remembered before.

Know yourself.

Thanks,

Joe

'To thine own self be true'.

Intuitively I've always been aware of the vitally important pact that a man has with himself, to be all things to himself, and to be identified with all things, to stand self-reliant, taking advantage of his haphazard connection with the planet, riding his luck, and following his bent with the tenacity of a hound.

- E.B. White

Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion.
- Democritus

Know yourself. If you need help, call the F.B.I.

I am convinced God has a sense of humor. Look at the platypus and Darwin existing on the same planet.

'Nuff said!

Excelsior!

Victory comes through strength. But what KIND of strength?

Nothing worth having comes without cost.

Freedom isn't something given to you. Freedom is what you have. What you do with it, well, that's up to you.

Peace and love,

Scot
