allow your kids to have a childhood - don't expect them to relate to you as an adult or be
your emotional caregiver -

they will grow up not knowing themselves and probably want to kill themselves all the time like i do-

plus if they get molested by a neighbor over a series of years - they will be just a shadow
and someone that will isolate themselves until they loose it -

Good advice, MGB.

I have a grandson now. His parents are very good with him but I am keeping a watchful eye on him, careful of the very things you write about.

As parent we are caregiver, protector, educator, disipinarian, nurse, cooks, taxi drivers, and hopefully a friend and playmate. As a child they are a child learning to live, gaining new experiences. They are not equipped to prop us up and to care for us. We need to be equipped and already propped up enough to handle all they need.

I am glad you posted this, I am not a parent, but I see my older brother and his wife with their kids, and it does my heart good, though I will admit at times I feel envy. This is something I think all parents must remember, and live by.
