Pedophile Priests
Written in a fit of anger after learing one of the priests from the parish I grew up in had molested boys and then been transferred around for the next twenty years. Why...
...because I can.

Pedophiliac Lies
(To the tune of "American Pie" by Don Mclean)

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how church music used to make me smile
And I knew if he had a chance
The priest would make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy for awhile
But bishops' conference made me shiver
With every excuse they delivered
Bad news from the pulpit
I couldn't sense their regret
I can't remember if I cried
When I read how charges were denied
But something made me sick inside
The day the worship died

Chorus:
So bye, bye pedophiliac lies
Resititution's no solution
But let's give it a try
And the altar boys were lost in all of the cries
Singing can you give me back my young life
Can you give me back my young life

Did you read the book of love
And do you have faith in G-d above
If old John Paul tells you so
Do you believe the Vatican
Is molesting not a mortal sin
And can the bureaucracy work real slow
Well I know that you molested him
Cause I saw you do it in the gym
You told him not to tell
Man I hope you all go to hell
I was a naive little altar boy
With a squeaky voice and heart full of joy
But I thought priests were nice to boys
The day the worship died

Now for some time we've been on our own
Only Moses got word straight on a stone
But that's not how it used to be
When the Bible said love as you would be
It did not mean sex under eighteen
Yet they prey on kids like you and me
Oh and when the pope got infallible
Eighteen-seventy you should know
Celibacy was the rule
So they taught us in school
And while the pope is infallible
He lets child molesters go
And makes sure were not in the know
The day the worship died

Helter skelter in a summer swelter
The bishops flew off for conference shelter
Law he went to share the cup
He won't admit he covered up
The people played their hand at last
With some lawsuits and some charges from the past
Now the bishops spelled their church's doom
With a half-assed attempt late not soon
If you get in boys' pants
We'll still give you one more chance
Cause the people said no tolerance
The bishops said just one offence
Do you recall Pius XII's defence*
The day the worship died

Oh and there we were all in one place
A generation lost in space
In need of a Third Vatican
So come on, altar boys better run real quick
Your own priest may be so really sick
Cause silence is the pedophile's friend
Oh and as I watched Law on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No evil lies you tell
Can save you all from hell
And as the Vatican screamed we're right
And ignored all those young boys plight
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the worship died

I met a boy whose psyche was bruised
And I asked him for some happy news
But he was silent and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd sang the music years before
But the man there said the priest had been transferred
And in the courts the parents screamed
The children cried and the bishops dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admired most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They'd all been transferred to the coast
The day the worship died
