I'm reaching out here by being open. If you can relate and you are comfortable saying so, please comment. If not, thanks for reading. Simply reading is also a way of supporting each other.

One of Us

What’s it like to be one of us?
I ask, only to make sure
I’m not alone.
I need to be one of us,
And not simply the only one.
We are warriors together,
Brothers helping Brothers,
But alone I wander, or slip,
Into the crosshairs of isolation.

Men here say they cry
When the memories are too strong
Or the stress is too heavy,
But I can’t. I don’t. I won’t?
Instead, I reach down, unzip,
And pay the memories to leave
By briefly feeding them the only
Stuff I can produce.
It’s the only currency they accept.

Surely I have paid for a lifetime
Membership in this club,
Yet renewal notices keep coming,
Piling up, load after load.
All I can do is push them out,
Toss my payment in the trash.
Flush it. Hide it. Recycle it.
And I have nothing left to offer,
Until the next time.
Alex this is a powerful poem. I'm going to share a poem in a few, I think it's about a similar topic.
