WARNING from ModTeam, September 2013: user "Shado
sometime ago we had a discussion here about juevinile boot camps ,today in the news its reported that a 13 year old boy died in a boot camp in florida, the second one in florida in two years!the other happened a year ago but its still just under investigation, what the hell ? they are killing kids and nobody cares cause they are bad kids you know?its crazy.i posted about the camp i was in and thought that by now the camps would have changed.they will never know what really happened,no one ever does. if the boy died you can bet your ass it wasnt easy ,he would have been pushed beyond the limits of what his body could stand,or maybe it was just discipline that went a little too far.
the other kids in that camp will have learned a hard lesson ,maybe thats what is was about.making examples of kids is a common pratice.it said that the kids were on a camping trip! give me a break!camping? yeah right camping is a 15 mile hike carrying the guards beer and food,oh and they drive alongside ,there are no tents there are no sleeping bags you are supposed to find your own shelter and sleep on the ground ,yeah camping was cutting a firebreak for the state park ,kids as young as 9 or 10 years old clearing trees and brush all day in 100 degree heat,we got water if the guards remembered to bring it if not you drank fromm the creek . food was this really neat trail mix ,yeah the guards ate big macs but we had nuts and raisins . as long as you could stand you could work,if you fell or got sick you didnt have to work but you got punished for it when you got better, each day you didnt work you got one day added to your sentence . why cant they shut these places down ?i think its cause nobody cares you know people think if you got sent there then you deserved it. sorry this subject is a sore spot for me. i never read the news ,but it was the first thing i saw on my home page . adam

Adam,

I remember your earlier post about boot camps, and when I read what you had to say I was shocked. Until then my knowledge of boot camps was limited to what I saw occasionally on programs like Dr. Phil, Oprah, and so on, where everything appeared to be very well organized and certainly not cruel. I imagine that people in general think the same way I did, and for the same reason: they just don't have the correct information. Clearly something needs to be done about that.

Much love,
Larry

Adam,

it never ceases to amaze me, how harsh society can treat kids.
My country UK is the worst example of kids taking their own lives in institution.

We tell parents not to smack their kids, then we can lock them up in the face of untold punishment.
What the Hell do they think they are doing???
Breaking a child like that is going to make him disrespect every adult he ever meets.

They are NOT, bad kids, they are kids who have entered the criminal system through their past witness of life.

Why not screen these kids for past abuse that has put them where they find themselves today!
I am glad you wrote this stuff, because I never knew the regime was so harsh, and can only hope these 'guards' dont have kids of their own.

Abuse is abuse, unless it happens within the supervision of authority.

This stuff is "to the point", the truth.
Send it to those who can make a difference, because every bit helps.

Dont beat yourself up over what is happening, just try and find a way of changing tomorrow, because that is your strength,

Adam. I hear what you're saying. Maybe you should write letters to the editor of major newspapers down in FL, and write almost exactly what you posted originally about those boot camps. Your testimony was VERY compelling.

If you do it, might I suggest that you tone it in a way that accuses the general public of being lax and complacent in the face of government sanctioned abuse of kids? I would love to see you write a letter and see what kind of public responses that you would get.

Who knows? You might save a kid's life.

Here's a jumpstart for ya!!!

It gets even worse. There is an organization based in Utah called "World Wide Association of Speciality Schools" (WWASpS), which operates places like this not only in the US, but overseas. One of their schools in Mexico were shut down by that country's government after inspectors found the conditions unacceptable. The "Teen Transport Service" they contract often literally abducts kids whose parents sign them up, drugging them, blindfolding them, and occasionally injuring them, before taking them to god-knows-where.

Take a look at how WWASPS presents itself . Then take a look at these links ( 1 , 2 ) to see what only some of the ex-students and parents have to say. WWASPS claims that the students and parents are lying and all news media which paints them in a bad light is biased.

There are a few good links on page two.

How many cases does there need to be before the whole thing crashes down with lawsuits flying everywhere.

Facilitated abuse goes on widely in the World, but dont forget "They are BAD kids"!!!

Even if they are, they do not need to be abused in captivity,
