Funny, after accepting what happened to me as a child, certain songs (fairly recent ones, too) have taken on a whole new meaning. I wonder if that happenes to other people?

Some that have helped me are:

"Bring Me to Life" - Evanessence
"I'm Not Crazy" - Not sure of the band. Sounds like MAtchbox 20 or Goo Goo Dolls.
"Hero" - Chad Kroeger & Josey Scott.
"Never Again" - Nickelback (Again, Chad Kroeger. More for women being abused, but I can relate).
"Love Me When I'm Gone" - Not sure of the band.
"Turn the Page" - Bob Segar & the Silver Bullet Band.
"The Fire Inside" - Bob Segar & the Silver Bullet Band.

Peace.

Scot

ANother one that I thought was really good (first time I've listened to it since the worst memories came back) was "Dance." I don't know the singer (the refrain - "when you get the choice to sit it out or dance/I hope you dance."

A few more songs to think about when you need a boost or just something that speaks to your emotions.

You're Only Human (Second Wind) - Billy Joel
Pressure - Billy Joel
Goodnight Saigon - Billy Joel (seeing a trend?)
The Thunder Rolls - Not sure (but he was REALLY popular a few years ago. Little help here?)

Aaaaannnnnd a few uplifting or funny (I think) ones.

Already Gone - Eagles
Loser - Beck (Thank God I don't feel like this anymore! more for my abuser)
Kick some @$$ - Not sure, was in "Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back" (movie soundtrack)
I Got High - Afroman (from my "dazed & confused" days...:-))
Rollin' - Limp Biskit (The Undertaker used this as an entrance song (pro wrestler). I dream of this tune when I imagine kicking the s**t outta my abuser)
She (F*****g) Hates Me - Puddle of Mudd (for every bad relationship I've ever had)
Bodies - Drowning Pool (See "Rollin' above. Not the Undertaker's theme, but the sentiment is the same)

Learn to cope with music or writing, brothers. It beats screaming. Actually any outlet is good, as long as it doesn't harm you or other people (yes, I include perps in that, even tho they deserve it!)

Peace,

Scot

When this came out two guys in our workshop wer having 'bad' divorces - so we'd all sing the chorus as loud as possible !

Good sounds in the list as well.

Dave :D

I will never let anything that I've been through spoil any of the music....it's all good stuff, speaks to me, through me, of me, for me. Loud is best.

Howard Shore has done some amazing stuff for the Howard Jackson versions of Tolkein's works. Listen to the track #8, "Many Meetings" from "The Fellowship of the Ring" soundtrack. This is the song that was going through my head at the retreat in Leyden MA. It was the music played when Frodo wakes up from his near death experience at the hand of a Ring Wraith wielding a blade of Mordor. When Frodo awakes, his hobbit friends are there with him, as is the rest of his fellowship, and they are in the most peaceful and healing place, Rivendell, the Last Safe homely house of Elves in Middle EArth...I guess you had to be there, see the movie, think of being in Rivendell, the place of peace and safety, the treehouse, with your safe brothers....it's a good place, a safe place....i go there often.

the healing power of music is an amazing thing. no matter what you've been through or what you're going through, somebody's been there and written a song about it. music has always been my spiritual source and my love for it has kept me alive all these years. so turn up the radio, listen, sing, dance, laugh or cry.

peace,

david
