Nervous about going to doctors/therapists?

I have an appointment with the doctor in about an hour and a half. Does anyone else here get nervous to go to your doctor or therapist? I am not in therapy yet, but am going to start probably this or next week...but the doctor I'm going to knows about the SA. It ruins my entire day to go to the doctor. I have to prepare myself, I sit there and think of what she is going to ask me the entire day long and I want so bad to cancel the appointment even though I know that I need to go.

Anyone know how to overcome this a little bit if it can be?

i have gone through the same exact thing. 'white collar/jacket anxiety' i heard a Dr. call it. one thing that helped me was to be honest with the doc about the feelings, the fear, the anxiety. once i got it out in the open it seemed to lose its control over me.

I sure did have problems going to the doctors. I got over it by being open with my doctor. I told him about my SA and what panics me and in turn he is very good about explaining what he is going to do and why and tries to be extra sensitive about how he does it.

Still I have some anxiety but it is managable. I personally think if you don't have even a little bit then you have the problem.

Seems like every time I go to a doctor he finds something wrong with me. I once went 15 years without seeing one. And hospitals? More people DIE in hospitals than any place else!

Hey, I have not seen a doctor for 34 years, is that the record in here?

Saw enough of every doctor and specialist as a kid to last me a lifetime.

Even the smell of antiseptic stuff triggers me back to them days,

One-up-man-ship is unattractive. Perhaps a cosmetic surgeon would be in line.... (Humor intended)

Aden, I am not boasting, I know I have some heart problem, I also have digestive problems going back many years, so I really should get them checked out.

I also suffer from stress, and have to keep my blood pressure down by avoiding salt, and stress.

Trouble is, I don't want to have to take loads of drugs and the possible side effects,

Catch 22 or what? :rolleyes:
