Hi..

I have an urgent request - I am desperately looking for a therapist specialised in adult cases of abused children in or around Lyon, in France. If anyone knows of a therapist anywhere in France, even that would help (French or English-speaking)

I had posted here a while ago on behalf of my brother but things have progressively gotten worse and I don't think he ever consulted this site despite my strong recommendations. He is addicted to alcohol, medication, and is anorexic and suicidal now.

Unfortunately there are no retreats in France like I have seen in Canada, but I do know that it is urgent that he start seeing a therapist. He has seen many psychologists, but none specialised in abuse and they are not "hitting home" with him. Can anyone help him?

Sadsister,

Is your brother a native speaker of French? I only ask because my own experience, having done therapy in German and English, is that therapy in one's first language quickly becomes crucial. It is just too easy to hide from crucial issues behind the ambiguities of translation.

I have just seen your message. Is your brother willing to do recovery work on the abuse he suffered ? Would he be able to do his therapy in French or in English ?
If so I know a few places.

with English speaking therapist Rose Marie Bourgault (cognitive approach, specialist in PTSD)
tel: 01 43 80 44 40 (please note there is a compulsory meeting with a psychiatrist prior to the beginning of therapy)

Centre des Buttes Chaumont (Paris)
Dr Pierre Sabourin (psychoanalytical approach, specialist on sexual abuse, systemic approach)
(don't have the tel number but you will find it easily on Google)

Also in Lyon (don't know how good they are but seem to be specialised in trauma)

I will get back to you later as I have two contacts in Lyon (one of them is a dance therapist working on alcohol addiction who is himself a male survivor and involved in Innocence in danger) that might be able to help.

Other names of therapists in Lyon forwarded by a survivor:

Ms Marine Thieulin tel: 04 78 42 70 43, sophrologist, ericksonian hypnosis, IMO (similar to EMDR).

Otherwise at the Centre Medico Psychologique of the 3rd arrondissement ask for Ms Collinet. This is part of the public health services so the fees are reimbursed.

Please give us some news here when you can. I hope your brother is ok !
