My thoughts on Thanksgiving

I would like to wish everyone a happy thanksgiving (although I know it isn't until tomorrow). Jeff and I will be spending the meal time with some of my classmates which should be a unique experience in itself.
Anyway, as I was doing Yoga last night, I began thinking about being thankful. Normally we all hear that we should be thankful for having family, friends, or this and that. That's all good and I don't want to knock it out from anyone, just maybe shift the view for a second.
When you reflect on being thankful for things in your life, don't forget deep within yourself. And by that I mean, maybe an area of your body that you have discovered or connected with now. Maybe it is a memory that had been haunting you and after facing it head on, you have reclaimed the power it had over you (maybe it is just the process of reclaiming that you are in right now). Maybe you have taken many steps this past year that has helped you to get to a point where you are at today. While you may not be able to name all of them specifically, you know they were there. Maybe your view of the life before you has taken on new shape, new meaning or a different altitude. One that was unknown to you until this year. Maybe a fear you have had is becoming a source of power to take the next step. Maybe someone has come into your life that you would have not normally let into that area of your self.
There are so many things if we look within ourselves that we can be thankful for. Regardless of where we are at in our healing, we have many things to be thankful for. Sometimes it may not appear that way, but if we look and if we reach for the magnifying glass, we will see them.
For me I am developing a greater awareness of my body and realizing that some memories are holding some of my muscles very tight. I'm learning that I can be more connected to touch and that when I am, it feels so warm and loving and caring. I'm learning that I can control my thinking and focus my outcome by just shifting my thoughts. I'm learning to be more patient and accepting of the events that try to sneak attack me. There are many more things, but I would have to rate these as pretty high on my list.
Whatever it is that you have done, take a moment and quietly honor yourself. Let yourself know that have taken these steps or acquired these mountains. Thank yourself that you are honoring your body, mind and spirit. If you can, thank yourself for the specific things you have done and for allowing yourself to grow, heal and conquer the unknown.
But most of all, just take a moment and honor yourself or just say thank you to yourself.
And you know what, you don't only have to do this on Thanksgiving either.... you can do it any day of the year you want.
