I thought you all might like to hear about the talk I gave at this Conference. I was the Keynote Speaker the First Day. I am not looking for acolades at all. I am hoping that it might stimulate some of you further along the path to take action of this nature for the good of us all and bring a better understanding of our behaviours and coping strategies to those we sometimes come it contact with.

I thought I would share with you the outcome of my talk at the Conference. There were over 200 people there. They included represtentatives of several provincial police forces (read States) the RCMP and various groups related to the whole issue of Male Sexual Abuse. I talked for over any hour as outlined in my powerpoint. It was to give them insight into the shit that we go through and the risks we pose to ourselves and others and the damage we cause by not dealing with the assault/abuse over some time. In my case it was 40 years. I hid absoloutely nothing. I received and handled many questions from them and when I was finished I got a great round of applause.

To be honest I was scared shitless at first but it went away after about 15 seconds. I saw this as a great opportunity for information sharing. Whithout exception, those who talked to me afterwards, and there were a whole lot of people, told me that it was the greatest learning experience for them in this particular field. As well every policeman who talked to me afterwards told me that when they pick up someone for behavioural symptoms that seem to be either totally off the wall or unbelievable in a public setting with all the risks of being discovered and all that goes with that they will take a step back before running arresting and charging them in the off chance that they may be acting out or involved in a stupid fight or in fact may be crying out for help. They all told me it will definitely make them pause and thing a bit. For that I truly believe that my talk was definitely worthwhile

Mike, I will also applaud you, but it must have felt so empowering to have the opportunity to educate those who are involved in law enforcement.

Education in this field is so narrow, and misunderstood, and the long range effects can be reflected differently by any of us.

The police and authorities can be heavy handed on the poor kid, who may get into some silly trouble, then thrown into a cell, for little reason, to me,it is an extension of abuse.

Maybe this is the way they now see it,

Mike - GOOD JOB!!! Once you get the motor running, it just takes off down the road!! I'm sure, from your experience as a survivor - someone who's been there, they learned more than could be in any other way. You took courage and brought a face, humanity, to being sexually abused...not the victim but a message from a Victor!! GOOD JOB!!

Howard :D :D

Mike - well done! You have very much to be proud of!

Best Wishes ..Rik

Excellent, brilliant, nice one Mike. I hope to be doing thsame in the not too distant future.

Education is the golden key to all this and that is what I plan to do for the remainder of my days.

Best wishes

If one Survivor who's acting crazy out there, and comes to the attention of the law is treated with more respect and gets a chance of the help that they need then your talk will have been worth it.

I agree that the crazy shit we do / did is almost always a cry for help.
I know that I often fantasized about getting caught, and the fantasy would run on into being understood by the people I love and care about.

I look forward to the day when I also get my chance to spread the word, I think it's coming very soon.
