This is my story that I told at the 4pm mass Sat and the 10am mass today Sunday. About 500 people at each mass. I got a standing ovation both times which kind of freaked me out. 20 -30 people came up after each mass and thanked me personaly for share with them. It's all some what over powering thinking that this all happened with a church.

Thanks for all your help on the recovery tread. I told everyone about MS and what a great place it is.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tom was an 11yo boy in 5th grade that Saturday morning in May 1961 when he became a victim of violence. This would be his 1st time serving mass with Father Ryan the head pastor at Guardian Angles parish in Hastings. He became an altar boy 3 months earlier but always served with Father Ferguson.

When Tom got to church there where two old alter boys already waiting to serve mass. Father said it must have been a mix up but told Tom to stay anyway he needed his help after mass.

As they put things away after mass one of the older altar boys said to Tom
You get to be fathers special boy today
Ya Fathers special boy laughed the other

As Tom was about to leave Father said,
Tom I need your help moving some boxes down stair.
Father made him leave his shoes up stairs so he wouldnt track dirt. They went down to Fathers office in the basement where Tom moved some boxes into the storage room from Fathers office.

Lets take this off dont want to get it all sweated up father said as he unbuttoned Toms shirt. It made Tom feel creepy the way Father touched him. As Tom moved the last box into the storage room Father followed him in shut and locked the door. Father came from behind Tom and put him into a big bear hug. Father told Tom what a special boy he was as Father touched him in all kinds of bad ways. Very bad ways. Tom just wanted to run away from Father.

No No Stop it Tom yell Stop it He screamed again as father unzipped his paints.

Tom I need this and God wants you to do this for me Father whispered into Toms ear.
Those words God wants you to do this for me Froze that 11 yo boy and rendered him helpless against such power.

How could God want this to be done to any child? Doesnt Jesus love all the children? How could this be? Tom decided that his God and Father Ryans God must be two different beings. Tom knew that his God didnt want him to be abused like this, so Tom tried to get away. Father Ryan didnt like it that Tom was freighting back. Father got very mad and violent with Tom. Very violent.

Tom knew that his God would help and that he just had to keep fighting. Then he heard those words from above.
Stop it stop it Father Stop it he doesnt want to do that. Stop hurting that boy.
The voice kept getting louder until it was pounding on the locked door.
Toms God had sent a Guardian Angel to stop Fathers abuse. The cleaning lady had heard Toms cries and screams and had come downstairs to save Tom.

Father Ryan had his hand rapped around Toms throat in a chokehold. Dont you say a word

Toms Guardian Angel would not go away. Open up Father, open this door she keep saying.
Father finally released Tom and went to the door to talk with the cleaning lady. Tom quickly put his pants on push Father Ryan aside ran out of that room, up the stairs and out the back door of the Rectory, leaving behind his shirt shoes and under ware.

Tom was totally in shock as he walked along the railroad tracks to Old Mill Park where he could hide in a cave he knew about. Tom stayed in that cave too confused to move. What would he tell his mother about having no shoes or shirt? Was Father Ryan looking for him? Would Father really kill Tom if he told anyone. Tom just sat in that cold dark cave crying and crying.

Damn, that is a powerful story. I am proud of you for all you have done!
Casey

Tom,
What a powerful story, it took a ton of courage to share this with everyone. You took a step closer to helping little tom out with this. You really helped men everywhere who have been abused. Thanks for all you do.

James

Tom, terribly sad, but what a little tiger you were. Great! Thanks for sharing this.

Bob

Tom,

Powerful. That's all I can really say, Powerful.

Bill

Tom,

I'm so proud of you for letting the congregation know what you had to put up with at the hands of that priest. With tears in my eyes, I'm here to tell you that you have saved some boys from similar fates just for telling your story. And you give the rest of us the courage that we need to continue with our own recoveries.
Thank you, Tom, thank you,

David

That was good work little Tom did, I certainly wasn't that brave.

Tom,

I'm proud of you. You helped beat that man. What a blasphemy, "God wants you to do this"!

Which "god" does that animal serve?

I thank Him for saving you, Tom. He PROVED what that animal said was a lie.

I'm proud of you for fighting him. You certainly were a brave boy, and you grew up to be a brave man.

Peace and love,

Scot

Tom - simple words that I may have cannot convey enough thanks.

Much respect to you ...Rik

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TJ

it took a lot of courage to tell. you should be very proud, and you are very strong.

Tom,

I am so glad you fought back. You have continued fighting back for all of us. You have been the Guardian Angel.

Thanks for doing so much.

Joe

Thanks for all for your words. I have realy been hearing nolthing but positive things about what went down at ST. Stans two weeks ago.

There has been a few letters to the paper ??? our moltive for our actions. All we want to do is make sure the church reaches out to the victims still hiding in the silence. Guest it is ok if they write those letters because then it gives us a chance to get this out in front of the public more. No one has cut me down yet just the
[ VOTF ] Voices of the Faithful. Thanks again Tom

Tom
if anyone does "cut you down" they aren't worth bothering with, you tower above them.

I am not a believer, for many reasons, but I don't deny anyone else their beliefs. And for you to still have your beliefs and stand in front of a congregation and say those powerful words must be a hugely meaningful act for you.
I might see it as a powerful act of personal spiritualism, to you it's an embodiment of your faith.
Whatever it is, it's made a difference. And that's what counts.

Dave

Tom,

You stand there and call Christians to live as Christ did. If that makes some of them uncomfortable, well, He made many people uncomfortable, too.

You are an inspiration. I really can not ever thank you enough.

Joe

Tom,

That amazing, strong little boy continues to live in the amazing, strong man you have become. I am glad that you were able to tell your story.
