This may be the best birthday present ever!

I wrote a letter to a youth advice columnist in the Boston area, Ask Beth, which is published in the Boston Globe (they say it's also syndicated, but I really don't know about that). I told my story in abbreviated form, and mentioned Malesurvivor.org to get the word out. Imagine my surprise and shock to see my letter in the column today!

Anyone interested in reading it can go to www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2003/12/04/male_abuse_victims_need_more_help/ (whew! That was a keyboardful!).

I hope it helps others. I know it helped me. I'm not hiding anymore. I have nothing to be ashamed about. I am LIVING with the abuse and I have NOTHING to be ashamed about. None of us do!

Be proud of yourselves, brothers and sisters. We are not being beaten by the abusers. WE are beating THEM! WE are healing the damage done to us. HEALING!

Peace and love, my brothers!

Scot :D

Way to go, Scot!

What a great letter you have written. I am sure that it will help a lot in expanding the public conciousness of the dilemna of the abused men in the US.

You have shown a great deal of courage in dealing with the effects of the sexual abuse in your own life. Now you are demonstrating a beautiful degree of compassion by publicly sharing your experience and hope with others.

What a wonderful thing to have done. You are right. When we are able like you to take the shameful abuse in our lives, share. it in the hope of helping others, we turn what happened to us into a valuable resource in the fight against male sexual abuse. Then we truly are the victors.

Thanks for posting this.

Your brother,

WOW Scot,
What courage it took to put that out like that. Thank you for telling your story. Maybe just one person will read it and find help they didnt know was out there. ((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

Scot Yeh that is some birthday present and happy birthday.

Would you mind terribly if I forwarded this on the The Toronto Star with a preface by me but acknowledging you as the author

Scot,

Thank you for your letter. I'm glad to see the issue, and this site, getting some coverage. WTG!

Joe

Scot - BRAVO! Good for you! That was a great letter. I am impressed with your honesty and courage.

I am a firm believer in the "He who saves one, saves the world entire." If your letter helped one boy to tell or one man to seek therapy or one wife to suggest this site to her husband, you have helped every survivor everywhere.

SOOOO proud of you and glad to call you a brother here. Happy Birthday!

-Sean

Scot,

I'm speechless! But not for long :D . Go Scot! Fantastic.

Hey Scott,

I heard from my best buddy survivor in North Carolina this morning and he told me that he read your letter in his newspaper yesterday. He said they added even more in their comments about it and another toll free number for children at risk. Way to go Scott. Throw a pebble into a pond and watch the ripples spread!!

Thanks for all of us...and those we don't even know yet!

Taz

Scott, this was courageous of you--and it is a tremendous service to all male survivors. The reply by beth was also great. Thank you Scott
