My first T session

I had my first therapy session. I found this place that is affordable and also provides services the LGBT community.

The first session was mostly paperwork, though we were talking about things in between questions.

He asked about abuse and also asked if I wanted to talk about it. I said no, not because I feel shame, but because I don't feel ready to talk about it with him. I think he could be good, but I want to leave the hard stuff for when I feel I can trust him. Besides, how much can we deal with that in the first session?

But I fell happy that I have a T for now. I'm also very grateful to you all for your support. :)

You are quite right to wait until you are ready to discuss this issue with you T. When the time is right for YOU is the only time that it is likely to do much good to talk.

David,

You are on target as far as I can see. Even though my last T was a good person, I felt that she tried to steer me in directions I was not ready to go yet. So I switched.

My new T will let me set the pace and direction until I gain that trust too. Doesn't happen overnight. Right now, all she has is an overview.

Remember, you are the consumer here (as Ken would say) and they work for you. So you should be able to go at your own pace. The painful stuff will be dealt with when the time is right.

For me, I am working on coping skills right now. Then I will go back and deal with the other crap.

Marc
