My Day: from great to horrible

My Day: from great to horrible
Yep, this morning I was good then it took a turn for the worse and kept going :D . Morning turned out to be great, I got into work, not much to do, and then my cell phone rings and guess who is on the other end of the line? World Renown male sexual abuse expert and author MIKE LEW!!!. I called him to get a referral for something, I certainly didn't expect HIM to call me and so quickly too, I called him yesterday afternoon and with all the calls he must get this morning around 9:45am, I'm talking with Mike Lew.

Well towards the second half of the day around 12pm, basically I'll be brief here, a couple who own a business was expecting their computer back and it wasn't ready. At 12pm they are annoyed, 2 more hours, I'm working on fixing it, I load something, and problems strikes, its about 2:15 now, so I talk to my boss he tells me we need to erase and reload the computer, WE SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE rather than trying to fix a problem for a customer who needed there PC ASAP. They have backups. Anyway, he tells me to call them and tell them it has to be erased and to get an ok and verify the backups, and that it will be longer now. HE KNOWS THEY WILL BE ANGRY. HE WAS THE ONE WHO SCREWED THIS UP IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHY CAN'T HE CALL? WELL BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH IT. Bottom line is I have a phone call with angry screaming customer on how this is their business and they need it back how my boss told them it would be done yesterday and how then it was this morning, then 2 hours, now its 3pm and they still don't have the PC. So I'm hurrying, I haven't had lunch, I order lunch, I eat it running back and forth between PCs. This isn't the first time something like this has happened, it happens alot. The job is stressful otherwise we are horribly understaffed.

I'm thinking about taking my inhertiance and going back to school full time after I get my works health insurance and qualify for cobra (being able to purchase the insurance at the group rate)in 3 months. I have other health insurance but I can only stay on it till the end of the year, with my plan from work, I can have it for a year after I quit (at minimum 1 yr 3 months).

Anyway, I hate my job, I just had to vent. Oh and also say that Mike Lew is a great guy, I can't believe he personally called me back.

I was lucky enough to meet Mike at a conference here in the UK and attend a couple of workshops he did, he is good - a very sharp guy.

Isn't work a bitch when it goes like that ? but that seems to be the way of the world these days when you're working for someone else - or a big company. The working guy has no power left at all, but that's another problem......

The bad news for us as Survivors is that it drags us down and we start to use our old dysfunctional coping stratergies, at least I did.
When my job changed dramatically for the worse about 7 years back I went into a tailspin and nearly crashed out. Somehow I sought help and recovered, but it was close.

I've just gone through another major re-organisation ( don't you just love major corporations  ) and once again I've been shafted. But this time I just don't give a f**k, if anyone thinks the crap this corp' can throw at me compares in any way to the crap I've survived then they're very wrong.

Today I have the self confidence and belief in who I am to ride above above it. It's what Survivors do, we Survive.

Jason,

What a day! But you got through it.

Isn't it amazing how bosses can screw up and then just let the help clean up the mess?

One comment about COBRA though. When you take advantage of it, you bear the ENTIRE cost. And the rate is higher than you and your employer are paying. Something to consider.

And guys, this guy called Mike Lew for me. He won't tell you that, but I will. He was the one who put me in touch of a lot of therapists here, one of whom I have an appointment with on Tuesday.

You're my hero Jason!

Love ya bro,

Marc

Jason,

I had never heard of Mike Lew. Another survivor friend give me his email when I am looking for therapists, because at the time, I am looking for Russian-speaking therapist. (I actually have American one who is working fine). He emailed back to me, and was quite helpful. It was only few months later of being here that I find out he is quite famous. It surprised me, how nice and helpful he was with me.

I'm sorry your work was so hard. I hope that it settles some, and that you are able to go with your plan to go back to school. One day I will do that also, but that is a future thing, I know. Good luck to you.
