jt - good luck with your move - i really can't explain how to find an apartment or where is a good place to look in your area -
i think it is a good idea to have a fresh start-
but perhaps do 'the move' (yay!)
in the best way for yourself -
it is a big stresser - make a plan - cover your bases financially as much as you can or anyone can -
think about how you are gonna get your things out and into your new place etc..
i dunno i kind of got the sense that this will be your first independent move - so
good luck - get prepared -
and go for it hombre!
