First let me say how very sorry I am about what happened to you. I know there is so much emotional turmoil in you now as you try to pick up the pieces of a life and deal with it. This is a great place to learn from others about how their emotions and thoughts are similar to your own. While everyone's experience for being here is different in particulars, it very striking how similar emotions run through it. While I was never forcefully raped, the similar feelings of violation are there. I welcome you here and hope is will be helpful to your healing from this.

I was in the service for 6 years - I was not raped but I did have a few inappropriate things done to me over the years - one expects the service to be a safe place where such things could not possibly happen - but they do happen - sad that the millitary choses to sweep most of it under the rug though...

This Rape was reported to my Squad Leader a month or so after it hapened . I dont think that He knew what to say . He told me to try and get on with my life and get over it .
I kept this terable sectet from 1977 to 2002 I finaly had I nervious break down and ended up in the VA psyc ward in Oklahoma City . They kept me for two weeks .
There is a notation an my dischaege physical that says #32 rectal gouge , and I found where on Octomer of 1977 I was seen by a military shrink
His notation says that I had a Situnial Reaction
I have spent a lot of time trying to find the people involved in this case . I did locate my
Squad leader . He wrote out a statement and had it notorized , that said I had talked to Him in 1977 about the rape . I have had no luck yet finding the E-7 that raped me .
I have ben in a long fight with the VA over this rape . They say because there was no witness to this rape it must of not happened . This is the stupidest thing that I have ever heard !!
If there had ben someone ealse there it would not of happened .

Mike, I was raped by soldiers when I was at the age 12. I have hated the military since then as well as felt embarrasment and guilt. The rapers could do anything with me and say what they would want, so they "convinced" me I was not the man. I am very sorry that you experienced rape. I wish to share with you my passion and a drive to find yourself in a safety environment where everyone is getting punished.

I served in the Army late 60's, early 70's. Was "molested" my a Sgt. He did not get to second base as I would have killed the sick bastard but the shock numbed me. Took a few days to think clearly.
I know the the DAV "Disabled American Veterans have some NSO's (National service Officers) who assist with claims that are knowledable in sexual assualt. These are mostly the female NSO's. I also know from working for the VA that this is not uncommon. This being your experience as well as mine. Let the DAV help. If they fail try another group.
The VA can surely drive one to their limits. But
that is another tale.

While not a long-term vet, I am currently in the navy. I've rescently extended for a year, but I've gone through TAP class. The VA rep up where I am seems to know his job pretty well. If you want, I will get that contact info for you. He might be able to help you get what you need from the VA. Hey, if nothing else, it could up your disability rating, more money is always a good thing, right? *chuckle* Anyway, I hope you have luck getting this taken care of, as it is definitely something that needs dealing with, both for you, and for the rest of us still in.

I am also a survivor of rape in the military. USAF 1990-1992. Gang rape by members of my squad for about 11 months. I have been going great. That is until now. Just typing this out has my hands shaking and my guts, well you know what I'm talking about!

It is intersting to look at this post . This is one of the first post that I posted . This is from seven years ago . After several apeals in 2009 I was found to have PTSD because of this rape . Because of this and some other issues I was given a 100% service conected rateing. The money has not made th problems of liveing with Military Sexual Trauma any easyer.
