Medical records

Anyone have experience looking for their med records from childhood? This is particularly difficult for someone with dissociative amnesia. I truly remember nothing about my childhood (good or bad) before age 11ish... That was also true as a teenager, I couldn't tell you where I lived up until that age unless somebody told me... I've only ever had terrifying flashbacks of being raped as a child, plus several related medical, psych and sexuality issues. Long ago I heard off-handed comments from school counselors & teachers about my past, I'm sure they've read something. I didn't connect the dots until recently. I really have no idea where to begin to look for my past.

The reason I'm searching is that in the last decade or so my parents described several trips to hospitals when i was a kid that I have no memory of, and the explanations for how I was hurt at different times never made sense to me, absurd really now that I look back on what was explained to me, though I've always gone off their word because i don't remember any of it.

Now I'm seeing a lot of my past with new eyes.

Hospital medical records dept. will get copies for you if you request & sign a release.

Not sure how it works stateside. I hear you about all the trips you cant remember to the hospital, and now you have me thinking too, perhaps I should get a hold of this information, just so I know . . . .

Here all I have to do is go to my GP (General Practicioner) aka Doctor, and ask, he will then point me in the right direction. However as both of us were here before computerisation, there may be date stamps on our records, which means they may have been archived somewhere, but with some determination we should be able to track these down.

Again I heard passing comments from a family memeber talking to another, at about the amount of times I was in the hospital up until I was 9 or 10, I can only recall one of these events!!
