LOVE in scripture

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
But when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13

VV- this is more important to me than any philosophical, theological discussion I could involve myself in. Topical discussion sway me neither to the right nor the left. But LOVE... It is non-threatening and beautiful...and I needed so much to read it tonight. Thank you, my friend.

i got some more love for you all.

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God,
and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
In this the love of God was made manifest among us,
that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
In this is love, not that we have loved God
but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen God;
if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God,
God abides in him, and he in God.
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.
God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.
By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment,
because as he is so also are we in this world.
There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
We love because he first loved us.
If anyone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar;
for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
And this commandment we have from him:
whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Dear ThisMan,

i want to share some practical advice about love i received from yeshua (aka jesus).

"You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your Father in heaven.
He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good,
and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?
Are not even the tax collectors doing that?
And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others?
Do not even pagans do that?
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
"
Matthew 5:43-48
(words attributed to Jesus)

well, there you have it.
mission: impossible.
high standards, to be sure.
perfection is difficult to ponder, let alone perform.

but it is written, clearly.

this passage from the sermon on the mount is one of the reasons i chose to reject Christianity as ridiculous and weak.
i did not agree with this philosophy of peace for most of my life, because it did not approve my precious desires for power over other people.
i did not see the divine logic behind this simple truth.

it is victory over fear!

Time for some more LOVE

love_power.jpg

not exactly scriptural,
but feels good...

The power of love is a curious thing
Make a one man weep, make another man sing
Change a hawk to a little white dove
More than a feeling that's the power of love

Tougher than diamonds, rich like cream
Stronger and harder than a bad girl's dream
Make a bad one good make a wrong one right
Power of love that keeps you home at night

Chorus 1 :
You don't need money, don't take fame
Don't need no credit card to ride this train
It's strong and it's sudden and it's cruel sometimes
But it might just save your life
That's the power of love
That's the power of love

First time you feel it, it might make you sad
Next time you feel it it might make you mad
But you'll be glad baby when you've found
That's the power makes the world go'round

Chorus 2 :
And it don't take money, don't take fame
Don't need no credit card to ride this train
It's strong and it's sudden it can be cruel sometimes
But it might just save your life

They say that all in love is fair
Yeah, but you don't care
But you know what to do
When it gets hold of you
And with a little help from above
You feel the power of love
You feel the power of love
Can you feel it ?
Hmmm

Chorus 3 :
It don't take money and it don't take fame
Don't need no credit card to ride this train
Tougher than diamonds and stronger than steel
You won't feel nothin' till you feel
You feel the power, just the power of love
That's the power, that's the power of love
You feel the power of love
You feel the power of love
Feel the power of love

Place me as a seal upon your heart,
As a seal upon your arm,
For LOVE is as strong as death,
And exclusive devotion is as unyielding as the Grave.
Its flames are a blazing fire, the flame of JAH.
Surging waters cannot extinguish LOVE,
Nor can rivers wash it away.
If a man would offer all the wealth of his house for LOVE,
It would be utterly despised.

Romans 13:8-10

Owe no one anything except to LOVE one another, for he who LOVES another has fulfilled the law.
For the commandments, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet, and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, You shall LOVE your neighbor as yourself.
LOVE does no harm to a neighbor; therefore LOVE is the fulfillment of the law.

more love from god through me to you.

And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning.

Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

got some more love for y'all.

Dear friends, let us LOVE one another, for LOVE comes from God.
Everyone who LOVES has been born of God and knows God.
Whoever does not LOVE does not know God, because God is LOVE.
This is how God showed his LOVE among us:
He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
This is LOVE: not that we LOVED God,
but that he LOVED us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Dear friends, since God so LOVED us, we also ought to LOVE one another.
No one has ever seen God; but if we LOVE one another,
God lives in us and his LOVE is made complete in us.

This is how we know that we live in him and he in us:
He has given us of his Spirit.
And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in them and they in God.
And so we know and rely on the LOVE God has for us.

God is LOVE.
Whoever lives in LOVE lives in God, and God in them.
This is how LOVE is made complete among us
so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment:
In this world we are like Jesus.
There is no fear in LOVE.
But perfect LOVE drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.
The one who fears is not made perfect in LOVE.

We LOVE because he first LOVED us.
Whoever claims to LOVE God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar.
For whoever does not LOVE their brother and sister, whom they have seen,
cannot LOVE God, whom they have not seen.
And he has given us this command:
Anyone who LOVES God must also LOVE their brother and sister.

1 JOHN 4:7-21

6588856_f520.jpg

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee,
that they also may be one in us:
that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them;
that they may be one, even as we are one:

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one;
and that the world may know that thou hast sent me,
and hast loved them,
as thou hast loved me.

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am;
that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me:
for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee:
but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it:
that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

a message of love from the apostle paul.

For in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

LOVE must be sincere.
Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
Be devoted to one another in LOVE.
Honor one another above yourselves.
Never be lacking in zeal,
but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Share with the Lords people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil.
Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for Gods wrath,
for it is written: It is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord.
On the contrary: If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head
.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:9-21

In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil:
whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God,
neither he that loveth not his brother.
For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning,
that we should love one another:
not as Cain was of the evil one, and slew his brother.
And wherefore slew he him?
Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
Marvel not, brethren, if the world hateth you.
We know that we have passed out of death into life,
because we love the brethren.
He that loveth not abideth in death.
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer:
and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Hereby know we love,
because he laid down his life for us:
and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
But whoso hath the world's goods,
and beholdeth his brother in need,
and shutteth up his compassion from him,
how doth the love of God abide in him?
My Little children, let us not love in word, neither with the tongue;
but in deed and truth.
Hereby shall we know that we are of the truth,
and shall assure our heart before him:
because if our heart condemn us,
God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not,
we have boldness toward God;
and whatsoever we ask we receive of him,
because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.
And this is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ,
and love one another,
even as he gave us commandment.

1 John 3:10-23

As the Father has LOVED me, so have I LOVED you.
Now remain in my LOVE.
If you keep my commands, you will remain in my LOVE,
just as I have kept my Fathers commands and remain in his LOVE.
I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.
My command is this: LOVE each other as I have LOVED you.
Greater LOVE has no one than this: to lay down ones life for ones friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business.
Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit,
fruit that will last, and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
This is my command: LOVE each other.

john 15:9-17

For God so LOVED the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

john 3:16

To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort
to add to your faith goodness;
and to goodness, knowledge;
and to knowledge, self-control;
and to self-control, perseverance;
and to perseverance, godliness;
and to godliness, mutual affection;
and to mutual affection, love.

2 Peter 1:1-7

He has showed you, O man,
what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly
and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

Micah 6:8

And above all things have fervent love for one another,
for love will cover a multitude of sins.
Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another,
as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1 peter 4:8-10

The mouth of the righteous is a well of life,
But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all sins.

proverbs 10:11-12

King James Bible said:
Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Ephesians 4:31 - 5:2

Matthew 22:36-40

36) Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37) Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38) This is the first and great commandment.

39) And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40) On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Deuteronomy 6:5

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Leviticus 19:18

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
