Since I am moving soon, I'm going to have a tag sale to get rid of all my extra stuff, and I was looking through my closet today for stuff I didn't need. I found an old box of school papers and stuff from elementary school. In with these things was half a notebook page with a sad little poem written on it. I was probably somewhere from eight to ten when I wrote it...

I kept the spelling mistakes intact just because it seems more real that way, I guess. I wasn't a very good speller. Here's the poem:

Warm sumer rain faling softy on the damp green grass
Evry rain drop a cristil just waitng to burst
The world a winddow lookig out on our lifes
Stomy and dark rain drops are eternil teers
The eye of the earth are
Forevr waching
Flowers just a distracshion, an ilushion
To take away the
Misery
Crying siying
The univers is a cold blankit of snow
Shut out in the frost
But Shut inside a room confind forevr
Traped inside a fake world.
A force smile
A bogis lagh
Neverous chukles
Unreal in the fake world

This made me really sad, I guess. I did also find a couple stories I had written, and they were a little more cheerful and something a "normal" kid might write. One was about time travel. I think little Josh was happy to read that one again. :)

I also found a poem I wrote when I was 14 or so... (I fixed the spelling mistakes on this one)

"Three"

It was long before the snows came,
And the skies still held the tails of ten thousand kites.

Within a single marble, the world shimmered a million times over,
Held by soft hands not yet used to the feel of rough ground.

He sailed the world with his mind,
Sails, white linen against a blue sky.

Before the earthquake drained the seas,
Before red waxy crayons melted,
Slipped through his fingers into the hollow fissures.

Whispers echoed in the darkness as the kites fell,
Flames licking their empty frames...

Make sure you take these with you, everywhere and forever.

Whatever happened in your past nobody can ever take away the talent you have, and as i've said in the Poetry Forum, I believe you have an extraordinary talent with words and emotions.

These poems are so moving. Treasure them.
