Mark Parenteau Gets Three Years Jailtime
April 5, 2004
Not a pretty picture for the personality who's resonant baritone and inspired mayhem were Boston radio mainstays for two decades. After pleading guilty to one count of second-degree sexual abuse of a 14-year-old boy, Mark Parenteau was sentenced to three years in prison on Friday. Parenteau had been accused of sexually abusing other youths, luring them to his home in Washington, DC with alcohol, drugs, and money in exchange for sex.
The Washington Post reports that prosecutors contend Parenteau was attracted specifically to black youths and sought them out via a DC support group for gay minority youth. He would then bring them to his home to smoke pot, drink alcohol and have sex. The activities allegedly occurred between March of 2001 and April 2003.
Parenteau originally faced an 18-count indictment, which could have led to a sentence of life in prison. However, a plea agreement was reached in January in DC Superior Court.
Parenteau's afternoon run on WBCN/Boston lasted from '78 to '98. After briefly hosting afternoons on WAXQ/New York, he began jocking and programming at XM, exiting after his legal troubles began.
