Law and Order: SVU

Law and Order: SVU
It seems I tend to watch the TV show Law and Order: Special Victims Unit quite frequently. It doesn't help that the USA network runs it like 3 times a day. For all of you from outside the US who don't know Law and Order: SVU is a show that revolves around cases of the New York City sex crimes unit.

Lot of people watch the show but I'm thinking I have a different connection to it. Anybody else seem to watch SVU alot.

I also watch SVU. I watch all the CSI shows too. One thing I have noticed about the programming is their portrayals of SA to men. The number of episodes showing male SA is increasing.

One person I shared my story with lnew that male SA happened, because she watched the shows. There was no hesitation on her side when I told her.

Also, the shows are increasingly graphic, which often triggers for some guys. For me, it brings stuff back, but doesn't trigger too badly. New SA victims might want to be wary watching them, because the SA is often a subplot, and just Bam there it is.

Just a few thoughts...

That is a great story, and I hope that SVU raises awareness of SA in men. Hopefully men and boys can find the courage to come forward and help themselves heal.

I too find help in the episodes, especially when Dr. Wong explains something about the effects that its had on the victim in the case.

We have to help keep these shows on the air to continue the awareness. Someday, I hope I can feel like I can tell anyone about my abuse. That day is not here yet, however I think it hope that it comes soon.

I tend to watch Svu and regular Law & Order along with Ncsi and a new one just came out Wanted.
